Channeling the puffin folks, just channeling the puffin…

it continually makes me very angry how despite the public health, economic, and moral benefits to virus eradication (see: smallpox), eugenics and the anti-vax movement have propagated a survivorship bias mentality that undermines trust in the greatest human invention ever.

Gerardo is a dad who works as an irrigator in the fields of CA's Central Coast. He is proud of the skilled work he does to make sure vegetables come to our tables. I wish a Happy #FathersDay to all the other fathers who work so hard to give our children a better life. #WeFeedYou

Happy Monday. Free Palestine. Let’s hope this week is less of a shitshow on every level than last week was.

Donald Trump has vowed to deport millions and jail his enemies. It's already happening. To carry out that agenda, his administration will exploit America’s digital surveillance machine. Here are some steps you can take to evade it.

When Joseph Lister began advocating germ theory in the 19th century, his critics ridiculed him. One man would walk into the operating theatre, slam the door, and say: "There, Mr. Lister's germs can't get in!" Never thought when I was writing THE BUTCHERING ART that we'd be backsliding into the past.

#OtD 15 Jun 1920 Spanish anarchist, Liberto Sarrau Royes, was born. Aged 16 when the civil war started, he lied about his age so that he could fight at the front, where he was later wounded. After the war, he participated in the anti-Franco resistance stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/8690...

Wolves have webbed toes! Not like ducks—but the skin between their toes helps them spread their weight over snow, acting like natural snowshoes. Combine that with tough pads and dense fur, and you've got the ultimate winter walker. #Wolf #Wolves #CWWC

Good morning America Have a safe and happy #nokingsday

I think it would be good to get some women in charge of the countries that have nuclear weapons. Women talk to each other. Women can be reasonable. Enough with the macho men and swinging dicks.

Trump won't even agree to meet. Kill Aukus now. Let's consult the best national security minds on how to be as independent as possible. We can count on only chaos from Trump's henchfools, not a real protection alliance. Don't deal with white-supremacist, anti-science, anti-women dictators.

You don’t think it means you, so you support it. Then it turns out it did mean you,_ and now you’re angry because you really thought it didn’t mean you. Repeated. Infinitely. Throughout all of human history.

This is Mr. Everett True, he is a big angry bloke who solves everything with a fight. But often he does it for good reasons. These cartoons appeared from 1905-1927 and were made by A.D. Condo and J. W. Raper. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Out... A 🧵of some of these century old cartoons:

Tourniquet's have been in use since 4th century BC. The Petit tourniquet was designed by Jean Louis Petit in 1718, who added the screw mechanism. It would have been used with a long surgical knife and bone saw during amputation to limit blood supply and reduce blood loss.

Happy #FridayThe13th! In earlier centuries, some people believed that the mummified hand of an executed criminal holding a candle made from the malefactor’s fat could render the person who carried it invisible. It was called the HAND OF GLORY. This example is from Whitby Museum.

Let's talk about fire & protest in my little corner of research. Meet Dr. Caroline Spencer. In Jan. 1919, she traveled from Colorado to D.C. to participate in the fight for women’s suffrage. She arrived with a supply of pinion wood from the forests of Colorado, which she called,“free wood." 🧵
