Great piece @wendyorent.bsky.social! One slight critique: while yes COVID is airborne, it is still also spread by droplets and large aerosols. The closer you are to the source, the larger the viral load. So the 6 foot rule still helped save lives especially when people could not access N95s.

Yes! How recommendations will be interpreted by insurance companies is key to how accessible the vaccines will be going forward.

Lots of misinformation in the comments. The science shows that COVID vaccines reduce transmission, including for recent variants. A 2024 CDC study showed that people who received the updated COVID vaccine were 54% less likely to get COVID-19.

Vaccination reduces COVID-19 transmission by up to 50%. And, yes, that has continued through Omicron: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37356650/

COVID vaccines are not sterilizing, but continue to remain effective at reducing transmission for all variants. They remain a key layer of prevention in addition to masks, tests, and clean air.

A memorial day does not mean COVID is over. Far from it. Formally acknowledging the devastation that has happened — and is still ongoing — is critical for continued action. Remember the dead, fight like hell for the living!

“Every day I see a new excuse why people ain't getting the vaccine. Ya starting to get creative with these "reasons" though & it's actually really funny. It never matters until it happens to them. I hope no one has to deal with what I’ve had to & still continue to deal with.“ Karl-Anthony Towns
