Stories set in the past are my obsession, and I've had three dark historical thrillers published, though at the moment I'm just loving writing Regency romances. (I blame Georgette Heyer). I also like art, poetry, and walking in the Derbyshire hills

Couldn't agree more. Writing a book that people want to read is a fantastic activity, even if most don't realise the hard work that goes on behind the scenes! πMay your words keep flowing βοΈ

Exactly. Plough on through that first draft, and with luck the ideas to strengthen it will come popping out at you!βοΈπ

This happens to me, so often. I like to tell myself it's a good sign. It means your characters are developing, and taking over!

It takes some willpower to get on with writing and resist distraction, doesn't it? (Says she, who has been popping up and down to get coffee, water the plants, answer emails that aren't urgent, etc etc) πβοΈ

I have my phone in another room most of the time, otherwise I would NEVER get any writing done! (Jane Austen would have done the same - or thrown the thing out of the window) π

I'm like you - I hate throwing away words that seemed so brilliant at the time. But do I use them again? Never! π

Me too. I remember when the Blackberry first appeared - it absolutely wrecked quiz nights π

I feel a bit like Ella whenever I begin to write a new story. I've no idea how things will work out, but at least I've made a start

My kind of place. Forget the sun and beach umbrellas, I go for moody! From another writer at work βοΈ

Yes, I heave myself up from my writing desk every morning to walk round the nearby park - and that's when I often come up with my best ideas πβοΈ

Another of your amazing photos - thank you. Interestingly, though, I've seen my parents' old photos of Preston's back streets in the 1950s, in which the children wore either old boots, plimsolls or nothing at all on their feet.

They are fabulous books, aren't they? That fencing scene just takes my breath away (and makes me briefly feel like packing in writing altogether!)

You'll find similar scenes in the Derbyshire Peak District, close to where I live. I've given up travelling abroad, there's so much beauty close by π³π³ποΈ

I'm the same. I always try to have something to look forward to, whether it's my garden, my friends, or the lovely people who say 'hello' to me on my daily walks. π³πΊ

Good luck with your new book, Drew. I write Regency romances, which I guess have some connections to fantasy (Mr Darcy emerging from the lake? In my dreams!!) ππ€£ποΈ

I love the understated tone of the poem - it would be easy to overpaint this key historical event. The history of the Roman Empire, especially during its decline, is endlessly fascinating, isn't it? ποΈβοΈ

I suppose the publishers can use the same woman for all the covers and save money...
(My books often have both the hero and the heroine on the cover, and somehow they never look as I imagined them.) π«’ποΈ

Creativity IS weird, I agree. The best ideas pop up out of nowhere, usually at the silliest times. Sounds like you're a writer - good luck! πποΈ

Lovely thought. Even if I'm feeling miserable, I try to smile when I go out for my morning walk, and nearly everyone smiles back or says 'hello'. Most people are GOOD π
