“There were literally tens of people.”

We’re honored to report that over 11 million showed up for today’s No Kings protest, and totals are still coming in. Just… wow. WOW 😮! There’s nothing more to say.

I don’t really have words to explain how it feels to see Kristi Noem standing on a street in East LA that looks like the street I grew up on in East LA with an invading military force trying to kidnap people who look like the neighbors I grew up with. It stays with you, spiritually.

“Te escucho.” 👊

And this is one reason why Trump called in the National Guard to support ICE raids - because the agency doesn’t have the budgetary authority to operate as it is right now.

Remember when the New York Times said that a massive deportation effort was Trump’s plan to reduce housing costs? And compared that to Harris’ plan to build 3 million more homes?

"They took her in a car, in essence kidnapping her ... I met another young woman whose husband has quite literally disappeared" -- Newsom shares harrowing details of specific cases of ICE terrorizing immigrants in California

Padilla: “We will hold this administration accountable”

Pope Leo’s first US episcopal appointment, San Diego’s Bishop-designate Pham, a Vietnamese refugee, invites priests and faith leaders to “stand in solidarity”with migrants at courthouse on June 20, as they make court appearances.

A car wash. Grocery stores. Home Depots. A church. I’ve seen footage from communities across my district of masked ICE agents chasing after people—not the violent criminals this administration is claiming, but people who like you and me just went to work to feed their families.

Turns out, the reason Trump tanked last year's immigration bill wasn't just so that he had something to run for office on; it was also so he would have something to give him an excuse to impose an authoritarian military takeover of the country.

This part. These raids are aimed squarely at left-leaning communities. It’s like how in his first term Trump imposed tariffs but then subsidized the agricultural industry so they felt less of the effects.

For those who live elsewhere, this is the heart of downtown #LosAngeles. My friends are here. My union is here (sup @wgawest.bsky.social). My teenager is here. People are passing out pastries & singing & praying. All we want is for our neighbors not to be kidnapped off the streets.

The 3252 made a strong statement at last night’s LAFC match. Standing in silence for nearly the full 90 minutes, to show the importance and power of immigrants, they ended the match singing “this is Los Angeles!” It was a very moving night on a day that started with marching in the LA Pride parade.

Let me get this straight: The President can send in 2,000 national guardsmen to quell a protest involving a few dozen people; but he can’t send in aid for the tens of thousands who lost their homes in wildfires?

Watch this. Alondra Boulevard is famously trafficky near that Home Depot. It’s right near the 710 freeway. ICE stopped traffic and started throwing tear gas at the people who were stuck there because of ICE’s actions. This wasn’t a riot. This was a set-up.

ICE crossed a line in LA

Why tho. Why the massive ICE presence.

Kristi Noem in Feb 2024: If Biden federalizes the National Guard [to handle border issues], we’ve got a war on our hands.”l Kristi Noem in 2025 as DHS Secretary: …federalizing the National Guard.

The federal government is moving to take over the California National Guard and deploy 2,000 soldiers. That move is purposefully inflammatory and will only escalate tensions.

LA’s approach to street safety in a nutshell.

Harvey Milk served his country honorably — first in uniform, then in public office. Taking his name off this Navy ship sends a clear message, and it’s one of disrespect and cruelty.

Cuts have consequences, illustrated. As seen on TV 📺

Fairly convinced if more regular folks (not those deeply into these issues) went to (or could go to) meetings like this, we would have a sea change in housing politics. It’s one thing to hear about it; quite another to see it in action. Just cruelty from people with means directed at those without.

We’re fixing Atlantic Avenue! This is what a comprehensive community-led rezoning looks like 🏠

The flood of encomiums and morality tales about Elon's turn in Washington cldn't be more predictable, vapid & sickening. If you want a story, get me the story about the crisis comms team directing this. He ran anti-constitutional blitzkrieg thru the federal government, did massive harm, violated ...

Instead of getting a taco truck on every corner, we got a TACO Trump in the White House.

From this story: small businesses are trying to eat the tariffs by... laying off staff, reducing the variety of products they sell, giving the consumer less for the same price, and postponing moving into storefront space. Is this what people wanted when they voted for Trump?

I can remember a time when republicans were all about “clean coal.” Now it’s just “make it as dirty as possible.”

WATCH THIS. He gets it right Nottoway Plantation: the so-called “White Castle”, burned down. With it, a monument to whitewashed brutality. We don’t need romanticized nostalgia for slavery. We need truth. Let this be the end of pretending these places were anything but what they were: crime scenes.

Housing in abundance is the “one weird trick” to address myriad, vexing policy challenges.
