I hit three bingos this year!

The amount of solar that has been built in Iowa over the last 18 months is astounding. 70% of electricity generated by wind from MidAmerican Energy, combined with low energy costs compared to the national average, allows Iowans to decarbonize easily and affordably.

While the MacBook Pro outsells, I still think the iMac is their best desktop (just ahead of the new Mac Mini).

While I don’t have this model in the article, I have another brand electric chainsaw that has taken down a handful of 40’ trees. Very happy to not deal with two-stroke engines!

Here are some resources for heat pumps and energy audits.
Heat pumps, installers and next steps to access incentives: energyoffice.colorado.gov/hptc
Home energy audits (how to seal in the savings): xcelenergycores.clearesult.com
While I live in another cold climate, I navigate this for a living.

Legit one of the reasons I gave up on the Max. Great sound for wireless, clearly the king of noise cancellation but the gymnastics to make it work are very Apple-y. I have AirPods Pro for wireless and Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro for wired.

If I could chime in, the state of AZ and the federal government offer incentives for heat pumps to help save thousands on installation. More from the governor’s office: resilient.az.gov/clean-energy...

Genuine question: Do you think geography influences prices much? Since Australia is closer to Eastern Asia (where many panels are made), is it easier to import?

Bluesky doesn’t have an edit feature (!) but both Macrumors and Apple Insider mentioned the 18.4 update adds this feature to only the USB-C model.

It’s a bummer that only the USB-C version will get the update.

Nice. Is Lennox shipping the R-454B equipment yet (new refrigerant)?

Can’t believe you got away with two batteries on Mirage. As soon as I heal with Mirage the enemy instantly one taps me for 5000 damage 😩

This is a good point. Mass Save requires a home energy audit and recommended weatherization upgrades before accessing heat pump incentives, unfortunately not all states require it.

The sound difference between a ductless heat pump and a PTAC will be amazing. You can have your electrician reuse the wiring for the existing PTAC wall plug and reroute it outside while converting it to a 15 A 240 V circuit at the panel. Best of luck!

This model will be a good fit for your space. It doesn’t require much heating or cooling and your desired temperatures reduce the heating/cooling load even further. It is the R-32 version of the units you saw in my post history. ashp.neep.org#!/product/16...

We hear similar issues in New England. “Heat pumps don’t work in the cold!” “What do you do when it gets below XYZ?” Had a solar salesman at our home and he asked what our back up heat is when it gets below 30 🫠

I’ll bite.
Could you share more about the 200-400 square foot space (type of building, insulation/air sealing)? This will be important to offer equipment recommendations.

Great product. Hopefully Apple allows the USB-B port to be used so BitBox can make an iOS app.

Depends on your location. If you’re in the US, manufacturers strongly recommend 240 V hybrid for anyone north of Virginia, south of Virginia either 120 V heat pump-only or 240 V hybrid is fine. The 120 V models have a very long recovery time during winter if you’re north of Virginia.

Question: I have a couple of those as well as some bi-fold and other “regular” wallets. What have you figured out for storing randoms papers, receipts or cash? This is why I usually go back to my old one, or the Satechi magnetic wallet.

Does your install have an electric heat kit in the air handler? If so, this will automatically turn on after a few degree difference on the thermostat which can eat into energy savings. Balancing for comfort (cool at night) vs savings (2-3 degree set back) will depend on your priorities.

I see your chart also shows natural gas, so you have a hybrid system?
To keep the thread shorter feel free to send me a message with details about the system. I consult on heat pumps for a living so I can provide deeper insight with more details.

The “set it and forget it” thermostat behavior is normally recommended with heat pumps. If you’re someone who likes to raise or lower it a couple degrees while sleeping that is fine, anything over a 2-3 degree difference will result in lower energy savings due to longer recovery times.

My favorite benefit, besides eliminating gas, is dehumidification. Helps keep the basement dry in the summer.

We recently installed two single-zone ductless units, with more on the way. Our last electrification project was the 66 year old gas boiler, it certainly had a long life! Now our home only uses the heat pumps and I’ll remove the boiler in the spring.

Which is the correct handle and domain to use? When I go to the .org it shows no valid HTTPS certificate and Bluesky shows invalid handle.
