It's not just Northwestern and Harvard, I have gotten credible (confidential) reports from several other schools (including state schools) that the NIH is defaulting on federal commitments there too. Seems like there may be a big story here for an investigative reporter willing to take it on

NIH moved up the expiration date for some funding opportunities, effectively *canceling* the next application date without removing it from the standard table. I can't even imagine how many people are still prepping these grants. 👀 List of impacted opportunities: grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

More than the freezing of individual grants at Northwestern, I hope it breaks through that all NIH money to Northwestern is stopped even for grants that have not been frozen or terminated. The university has received $0 from NIH since March.

Exciting news: The Fairness, Accountability, Transparency and Ethics (FATE) group at Microsoft Research NYC is hiring a predoctoral fellow!!! 🎉 www.microsoft.com/en-us/resear...

There is a false dichotomy drawn between "the ivory tower" and "the real world," and I'm here to report that in a post-industrial society, your real-world economy absolutely hinges on the university. University towns are factory towns. Universities drive economic activity, not the other way around.

I find myself writing and deleting a lot of posts here.

The kids are alright, it's some of the grownups that need interventions.

this is a letter to the editor from a high school track runner who came in second to a trans girl in a race. her state house rep in maine started talking about it. so she wrote this: www.pressherald.com/2025/05/14/r...

Evidence shows that congestion pricing (*think NYC, not ON-407 PE nonsense) is absolutely the best way to reduce congestion, *and* raise money for transit infrastructure, which in turn makes pub transit more viable. It's almost too good. Instead, in ON, we get anti virtue-signaling trash. #ONpoli

Episode 5 - sure, most cells have one nucleus, but what happens when they DON'T? @erinweisbart.bsky.social and I try to get to the bottom of what on earth you can do when your cells and nuclei just don't match up on the latest episode of "Ask Erin/Dear Beth"

#NIH is still termination grants, zeroing out budgets, and issuing stop-work orders. But they are hiding more and more of it from the public. More than ever we need people to report so researchers can advocate and organize. Please report at grant-watch.us/submit-nih.h...

Meaningful action is 💯 in their purview but this government won't act. 7 years on, they've chosen staying in power over doing the right thing on housing. Why? Better housing policy upsets their base & requires political courage. They don't have it. Housing will *never* get better under them #ONpoli

Congestion pricing: the unmitigated win that NYC is enjoying, and which Toronto will never get because too many nincompoops are in charge of the province: www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

It's one of the few programs that literally pays for itself. Invest early, invest often.
