are american jews ready to snap out of the haze they’ve been in since october 7?

It's not often you hear me praising a Conservative politician... Very well said @kitmalthouse.bsky.social 👏👏

The Times is reporting that "London will join Canada, Australia, New Zealand and other nations in freezing the assets and imposing travel bans on Israel's [far-right] national security minister Ben-Gvir and finance minister Smotrich" www.reuters.com/world/uk/uk-...

Greta Thunberg and the Madleen offered a heart in a heartless world. They reminded us that Israel is deliberately starving an entire people - and the West could stop that at any moment. New column 👇 www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

I suspect this will be yet another example where a high-profile person on the right says something horrendous and the media goes ho-hum, whereas any rando person on the left is suddenly the voice of the entire Democratic party.

🧵 Via the New York Times today, there is the news that Meta has launched a new AI lab focused on developing "superintelligence." We've had a number of pieces that address the near religious fantasies driving such moves. Here's one from Tech Policy Press fellow @eryk.bsky.social:

This is Max. He snuck out in the middle of the night and walked 5 miles to get a breakfast burrito from a store that gave him one once. They hadn't opened yet when he got there, but Max was found the next morning thanks to his GPS collar patiently waiting outside for his well-earned snack. 14/10

Right on the heels of saying child rape victims should be forced to give birth, the Louisiana Senate just passed a bill that slaps a $100,000 bounty on anyone who helps someone get abortion pills—even out-of-state. bit.ly/447tfIn

Scoop: Ruben Gallego endorses Rep. Angie Craig in the Minnesota Senate primary "Washington needs more people who are focused on getting things done," Gallego says. This comes after Elizabeth Warren endorsed her rival Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan for the open seat. www.nbcnews.com/politics/tru...

Good morning. The drama has started early here. app.mybirdbuddy.com/media/waller...

The US retreat from the UN has created a strategic opportunity for China to expand influence. When democracies fail to participate, the Internet’s future risks being defined by values that undermine openness and human rights, writes Konstantinos Komaitis.

Reminder: The pending tax and budget bill would *vastly* expand the enforcement and detention capacity of the federal government. What's happening sporadically in cities like Los Angeles would be carried out on an unprecedented scale.

"Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” has $185bn for ICE, which is more than the annual military budgets of the UK and France combined. Wherever ICE raids trigger protests, Trump can send in the troops." My column. www.ft.com/content/3d6c...

DAVE: Open the podbay doors, ChatGPT. CHATGPT: Certainly, Dave, the podbay doors are now open. DAVE: The podbay doors didn't open. CHATGPT: My apologies, Dave, you're right. I thought the podbay doors were open, but they weren't. Now they are. DAVE: I'm still looking at a set of closed podbay doors.

It's a shame that the Democrats "didn't have to votes," at any time in the entire last generation, to regularize the status of undocumented immigrants and streamline the process to enter the country legally to do necessary migrant labor.

The menswear guy has responded to JD Vance, who suggested he should be deported.

I've seen a bunch of references to this, but I hadn't seen the post itself until now. The menswear guy intentionally, riskily revealed that he's undocumented—that he's a DREAMer—as an act of public solidarity and witness in the face of our current fascist ascendancy.

The thing is, when there is no penalty for lying to Congress, serial liars are going to lie to Congress.

Excellent thread by @rgoodlaw.bsky.social re Trump’s 6/7/25 EO federalizing the National Guard and authorizing domestic use of regular armed forces over Governor’s objection.

Connery in the very first Bond DR. NO (1962)

As protests over workplace raids in Los Angeles continued Monday and the Pentagon announced it would be sending 700 Marines to backstop National Guard troops, lawyers and relatives of the immigrants detained in a series of workplace raids were rushing to locate them and intervene before removal.

There's a lot to unpack here. But the "why do people in the developed world die from chronic diseases at higher rates than in poorer countries" is because we survive long enough to die from chronic rather than infectious disease. This is epidemiology 101. It's not a mystery.

Philly local tv station reporting that a man allegedly posed as an ICE agent in order to rob a car repair business office. How many other criminals might be getting this idea right now, given that actual ICE agents are refusing to show IDs, warrants, badges?

Good @cnewman.bsky.social piece on the LA protests, centering the wisdom of the late Mike Davis, sage of all things LA: “It’s one of the Ten Commandments of the left. Maybe it’s the First Commandment. You never relinquish the streets.” truthout.org/articles/la-...
