They’re not behaving as if they’re in a four-year term. They’re behaving as if they’re in an everlasting dictatorship. Are we all clear on this?

England could face water shortages within a decade. Since 1989 population, homes increased - 25 reservoirs sold off, no new ones, no desalination plants, 1 trillion liters of water a year lost to leaks. Companies borrowed to pay dividends. No forward planning. Disaster made by privatisation.

Maximus, UK arm of a US contractor, that tests whether some people should receive disability benefits reported 23% hike in pre-tax profits, from £23.6m to £29.1m. It has £800m govt contracts. US CEO got $10.2m paypacket. Public services increasingly privatised. We pay more, get less in return.

well said that woman!

That is the same as 2,500 people on benefits, just to assess people. And this US firm won't be spending a penny of that in the UK.

Socialism is what they called public power. Socialism is what they called social security.    Socialism is what they called the growth of free and independent labor organizations.   Socialism is their name for almost anything that helps all the people. —Harry Truman, 1952

The future was supposed to be hoverboards, flying cars and nobody having to work. Instead it will be crippling poverty and sickening fascism.

Under John Swinney, the SNP has made eradicating child poverty its top priority. Scotland is the only part of the UK where child poverty is expected to fall as a direct result of SNP policies. All we are getting from the UK Labour government on the cruel two-child cap is more empty rhetoric.

All the people complaining that the police have said the Liverpool driver was white British are the same people who made it necessary for the police to say he was white British.

Why is there a 2 child cap for everyone else, but a 3 child cap and 5x the money per child for MPs? AND they can still claim normal Child Benefit as well. Stop these outrageous benefits.

Not main point but very revealing that Laura Kuenssberg keeps on talking about the "child benefit cap" in *tax credits* (it's Universal Credit, and has been for most claimants for some time). Reflects both very poor briefing *and* her complete ignorance of the topics she asks questions about..

Between 2011 and 2023, 816 care homes in England were forcibly closed by the regulator for poor standards and harms to residents. 804 were owned by for-profit entities. 30% -40% of fees vanish in profits, leaving less for services. Profits and care don't mix.

Americans work more hours, take less vacation, work longer days, & retire later. But hey, at least we're not stuck with socialized health care.

CEO pay is up 1,085% since 1978, while typical worker pay is up just 24%.  Why do we always hear "we can't afford to pay our workers more" but never "we can't afford to pay our CEO more"?
