Yuck, funneling more public money in AI startups, all that to cut in public staff later...

They're following the example set by their leader!

Because the current status quo is failing them. are hungry for a change, any change, and right now, only far right parties offer to change something (as horrible as it is)

From a quick glance, it looks like Labour voters are stable, SNP and Tories unhappy voters chose Reform this time. Basically reform voters are voting to change the way things have been since 2021. (and in my opinion, it is quite concerning that reform now represents the "vote for change")
comment in response to post
That's bullshit. Republicans are behind Trump, and have been since 2016. The only thing we can "hope" for is that they may not defend Musk anymore.

With reform in power, you'll get a new government every quarter! (only the prime minister won't change)

All these take a long time to bring a tangible improvement in people's life. And when it does, the next party in power will claim to be responsible for it.

Yet it's a losing strategy. Starmer should offer ways to improve people's life, not waste his time talking about Farage. Here again, all we hear is Farage's talking points, and how starmer doesn't like him, playing exactly into the far right rhetoric.
comment in response to post
It's quite a weak argument, considering how Labour voters feel betrayed by Starmer...

If he gets elected again, I'll really lose any form of hope for this country.

He's fucked them over with brexit and the first deal, he just wants a second chance to do that again!

Also blaming the migrants for the lack of economic growth over the past 4 years... I really wonder what happened 4 years ago in the UK that has damaged the economy so much...

I am not certain that Trump remembers who Farage is.

Can't wait to see who would replace her? They're really scrapping the bottom of the barrel...

Leaning to the right will just make Reform UK and Farage more prevalent. They will dictate the topics and talking points in the media and throughout the campaigns.

You forgot two points : - fuck the lower and middle class - make Reform leaders and their friends richer

I agree with your post. Labour has only a few years left to prove to the British people that things can get better without blaming migrants, more austerity and more funneling the public money into private interests. We need more left wing, no reform lite.

You have to be good at stealing money to join Reform UK. Their leader is a champion!

No, but we don't need to bargain our country in the hope of getting preferential rate with this country. We can continue trading with the USA with the current rules.
comment in response to post
And we import about the same amount (£57.9bn) from them. I get that they are an important trade partner, but forming a trade deal, easing the trade of some of our industries, would create a huge imbalance in the country.
comment in response to post
Seriously, why are we seeking a trade deal with the US? We have nothing to gain there, and they will require to sell what's left of this country for parts. We should be looking to take our distance from them...

And that is why "left wing" governmenta are failing, almost always swinging to right wing in the next election. As long as they don't tackle social inequality, voters will see that left wing parties are powerless to improve their life, and look for alternatives (far right) to bring some change.

When far right make others suffer, they show no compassion. Here, Tommy Robinson (or his lawyer) is abusing that compassion to ease his case, counting on human values to play the victim. But don't be fooled, as soon as he'll be out, he will return spreading hatred without a moment of sympathy.

Trump wants the UK to dismantle the NHS, lower food standards and employment rights, enforce segregation and revised history, remove any limit to hate speech, especially on social media...each of these should be a red line, and yet we are still talking about a us trade deal periodically.
comment in response to post
I hope you're right and starmer will do the right thing (not give anything to the USA). But he's disappointed me times and times again.
comment in response to post
"free speech" = accepting American revisionism and reinstate segregation. The worst is that I believe Starmer could entertain the idea to cave in, hoping to get any economic growth.

That's extortion, pure and simple. It's high time for the rest of the world to cut ties with the USA.

Instead of "banning dei", say what it actually is "reinstate segregation and discrimination"

The USA are a very unreliable ally by now. Even if Trump (or Vance) accepts a defeat in 4 years, who will come next? We can't base our livelihood and our economy on a country that can, and will, turn on us. The World needs to stop relying on them in every way.
