Yes, it seemed a lovely combination of colour & shape.

Thanks.
I loved the white backdrop & the different colours & shapes of the buds/flowers in the foreground.

Siena & Pistoia are on the list at the moment. Still some planning to do.

Yes, there are some great churches.
We got the impression that today’s churches were opened especially. So it might be worth checking ahead when you do visit.

We certainly did. Four Huntingdonshire churches, which we regularly pass near on the A14.
This was an opportunity to stop & appreciate their finer details. Each was a palimpsest in their own right.

Marvellous.
We shall look forward to seeing some Italian examples in the Autumn.

Wonderful.
We were on a tour with John today where the churches had all been scraped over the centuries.
It goes to show how much we should appreciate the wall paintings that are left.

Great. I love the details, particularly the idea of the gremlin trying to weigh down the scale.

Where did you go?

I think I would agree with you.
However, it is a fine example of its type.

I’m glad you liked it.
I think we could all do with such beauty at the moment, whether a peony or a rose.

My mistake, should be a rose.

It most certainly never did exist & as for those claiming to reinvent it ….
We look with horror at world events, particularly at what is happening on “the other side of the pond”.

Absolutely.
I used to organise school field visits to the Spitalfields area - History, Geography & RE.
I knew about Huguenots, but I found this a fascinating read.
Thanks for sharing & to @londonstone.bsky.social for posting.

Well …
We eventually got to the Sidgwick site the other day.
Thanks Roger for the “top tip”.

Well ……
Although I agree there seems to be less, there are many still around.
We walked into our town this morning & 10 swifts were circling in the sky above us.
Also, 3 of our 4 nests are occupied.

Yes, the porch & door is good. Especially with the white roses growing around the entrance.

Yes, the designs & shapes of postboxes can be very interesting.
I love also learning about the history of where they are.
This week a steam engine house, last week a medieval monastery.

Great! They certainly have a distinctive call.
We got it particularly when a swift flies by the nest & the other adult answers. Later, of course, it is the young calling from the nest as the adults gather food.
I wish you good luck spotting these mesmerising birds. 😄

We are not aware of swifts constructing a porch.
In our case they have exploited gaps in the 4 corners of the semi-detached house.
In fact, our neighbour has put up swift boxes, but they have been occupied by sparrows.
The Town Hall plays swift calls, but they have not nested there as yet.

It is interesting that you have spotted them for the first time.
Perhaps, these might be juveniles or “Bangers” scouting out a nest site for the future.
We had a lot of commotion the other evening between the Bangers & existing occupants.
I also witnessed a swift scouting out a nearby house.
