To them, freedom means being able to impose their will over those with less power and tyranny is being prevented from doing so. To them, what's happening right now is freedom.

They're not worried that the flag will make kids gay; they're worried that it will make gay kids feel welcome.

If I have any emerging hope for 2026 and 2028, it's that they are proving themselves to be way more overtly evil, and just plain bonkers than even I expected.

Not impeaching Trump because we know he'll ignore it sounds like surrendering in advance. It's a moot point with the congress we have today anyway. How this goes depends on whether we're still able to hold free elections in 2026. I have grave concerns about that but no crystal ball.

Because congress wouldn't have rolled over and let him do it. It's not the supreme court that's powerless; it's congress, and it's by choice.

Question: These wild fluctuations are not just causing economic havoc in the USA, but in every country in the world. What, if anything, can other nations do to stop this?
comment in response to post
Ah the age old question: does becoming a multi-billionaire make you an asshole, or is being an asshole a pre-requisite to becoming a multi-billionaire? Or can both be true?

The thing that continues to gall me is that, proportionate to his overall wealth, this hit Elon like dinner for two at a decent restaurant would hit you or me.

Midterms are probably democracy’s last hope, and to win there will require overcoming a wave of suppression, investigation, propaganda, and dark money.

Except the drop in inflation that began in the summer of ‘22. Trump did that.

Dems need to stand for working people again. Sometimes that might look like moving to the left, other time to the center. Pay more attention to the vertical axis.

These comments concern me. DOGE’s takeover of social security is not based on the myth of fraud. That makes it sound like DOGE believes the myth is real. They know it isn’t. It is simply the standard justification they’ve been using to destroy all bureaucracies and social services.
