I think the grooming inquiry is trying to be strong armed in as a U turn despite the government stating they’d act only when Baroness Casey reported out. Who knows what tomorrow’s ‘crisis’ will be 🤷‍♂️ Kier Starmer uses three ply toilet paper.. Rather than the Daily Mail I might add 😂

Yeah. You can see the plan but it’s dependent on sequencing in terms of the results. That’s the only bit I’d say where the welfare reform bill was for me out of sequence. Allow the investment to drive opportunity, review and align on what reforms needed and then implement in a growing economy
comment in response to post
I suspect they expect gilts and interest to drop and then tax increases won’t be needed. Together with investment driving tax revenues with more people working. Saw a post stating more people again are moving into the higher rate of tax due to the freeze on threshold. It’s a fine line being trod

Invest £300bln in the course of this parliament to create jobs and opportunities supported by workers rights. True, you can take a horse to water but you can’t make it drink but I think in 12 months the country may turn to an aspirational one individually and collectively.

I cannot tell you what you should do because I do not live with your illness and disability. But, please message me and if I can help in any way then I will. Again, my apologies if I have added to your stress. My offer to help is here

I pray that is not the case Jane although as stands I think the vote will be pulled or pushed through with a hell of a lot of conditions on the government to provide assurances that people like yourself are not impacted because quite simply you shouldn’t be.
comment in response to post
My sincere apologies if I have added to your distress. Quite clearly you should not be impacted by the changes other than never being reassessed again and supported better.

They’ll all be at their happiest when they’re back in opposition. Sure bet that Reform will obliterate welfare whilst doing precisely nothing to support anyone in to work whilst switching the till on to use the NHS. Manifesto was clear on supporting young and disabled people into work.

As is the ipsos

England: The think tank Autonomy is seeking funding for a micro-pilot in two locations, central Jarrow and East Finchley, involving 30 participants receiving £1,600 per month for two years. This pilot aims to assess the effects of UBI on individuals' lives and contribute to the case for broader trials
comment in response to post
Greater Manchester: A proposal for a pilot program in Greater Manchester aims to support vulnerable young people at risk of homelessness by providing £1,600 per month for two years. This pilot would be funded through a combination of government support, donations, and reallocation of existing funds
comment in response to post
Wales: The Welsh Government is running a 3-year trial, involving 500 care leavers, who receive £1,600 per month. This pilot, which began in 2022, is designed to assess the impact of UBI on this specific group So assume it’ll report out sometime this year or early next
comment in response to post
I thought it was being piloted in Wales? That was more than a year ago it was kicked off

It’d actually be good if @mrjamesob.bsky.social could get 30 mins with Liz Kendall or someone else from the cabinet rather than Ferrari getting all the ‘call the cabinet’ guests. 30 mins of Nick attempting his gotchas leaves me empty on actual information I want to hear from the govn.

And that then brings me on to employers… WTF is the criteria to employ someone? I’ve been monumentally lucky, hard work, dedication and willingness to learn aside I’ve been lucky. My wife with 20 plus years experience and a 1st class honours can’t even get an interview for a rank basic admin job 🤷‍♂️
comment in response to post
It wasn’t about the money but the money would have helped towards; Professional CV written Interview attire Transport costs Focused training Probably much more I could list that would help prepare her for what the country supposedly needs. The system is broken
comment in response to post
Real life example. My wife claimed for JSA having worked all her life before doing a degree (1st class honours achieved). Rejected because she hasn’t worked last 2 years and therefore no NI contributions. No assignment of job coach or support to get work. Individual desperate to work unsupported 🤷‍♂️
comment in response to post
Comms and sequencing just poor. Agree, public debate to shape, MP/unions/charities input to proposed changes (and improvements), policy finalised and vote. He is going to have to defer it because he ain’t going to get the votes and that will result in cuts to NHS and other budgets.
comment in response to post
Exactly that. No coincidence every news media broadcasts the ipsos (reform weighted) poll showing them with a 9 point lead than the historically trusted yougov giving a marginal 4 point. The ultra rich want a puppet Reform government and then it’s game over.

Often have this conversation with my wife and agree entirely. It’s science, history, politics replaced with any random nonsense someone can post to get clicks and cash. The media do not help because they then pick up and push non stories resulting in nothing but negativity. Not good for the brain

And for balance here’s the Tories Industrial Plan 2010-2024 and Reforms first draft.

I’m slightly more cynical and that’s my baggage to manage 😂👍

Country by country reporting (BEPS base erosion and profit shifting) is designed to stop entities posting £10bln profits as an example with 1 employee in a low taxation jurisdiction. Not publishing in the UK means you/I do not have insight into the company we spend with are paying, or not.. taxes

The EU requirements (explained here by BDO Global) apply to groups in CbCR with presence in one or more EU countries, subject to certain criteria, for periods commencing from June 2024 onwards. The Australian rules (explained here by BDO Australia) commence on the same timeframe.
comment in response to post
The EU and Australia have introduced requirements for groups to publish at least partial details of their CbCR, allowing scrutiny of the relevant information by the public and raising the prospect of needing to consider the public relations implications of the content.
comment in response to post
Public Country-by-Country reporting The UK does not itself have any public CbCR requirement, with documents filed only for the interest of HMRC and relevant overseas tax authorities.

Keep saying it long enough and you’d foster the impression Reform are the good guys and a shoe in. It’s intentional, as is weighting polls to make Reform ‘acceptable’. Being 1 in 3 feels a lot more comfortable than 1 in 4. Clear the Guardian is now also bought and paid for but we know that
comment in response to post
👏👏👏 thank you Dan. I’m sure the author of the article is racing to update the article to give balance to it.
comment in response to post
But that wouldn’t fit the narrative being sold, would it. Reform the Robin Hood of political parties 😂
comment in response to post
In effect £25K a year for 10 years on their vast wealth. For balance the article could have made a calculation/assumption of what the tax take would be if they paid tax as they should for 10 years.
comment in response to post
Exactly this. The stampede to leave was because of impending OECD tax evasion laws that the EU were looking to adopt. But we got our sovrinty 🤷‍♂️

It could it be the new methodology is to poll mainly Reform voters given it does not stack up against the you gov polls

Yup

You know they don’t want that Paul and you know there’s also not 170 opposers (more likely 50, max 70). Those 50 and we know them would have been opposed to the manifesto and were still stood up to the benefit of the Labour majority they hold.
comment in response to post
Agree with the latter part but not the whip being removed otherwise you don’t have a clear understanding of support to policies. What I found interesting in the letter was 90% dedicated to complimenting the govn on policies it is implementing, 10% opposing and 0% on an alternative
comment in response to post
Very much doubt it’s 170, 70 at most and doubt greater that they’ll create a Labour 2 and retain a seat or the power to make change. But, they are all voted in to represent their constituents so even 170 disagreeing is surely a good thing for democracy and for Labour. Whip should not be removed

Suggest you read Dan Neidles write up. The ‘richest’ are paying their tax, might not be enough but it’s aligned to the legal obligations

Same view although whatever he does will be twisted. The media is essentially a clickbait, moneymaking, shit stirring machine. I’m tired every day of listening to endless hours of negatives painted on any and every announcement.

On the other hand Tiddy, Farke’s judged on results and he sticks the lad in on games we should/have to win and we lose he’s also a twat. I think after play offs defeat he knew he had to get promotion even if that meant the younger lads not getting a chance.

Gonna be rocking on that Monday night and just need a ref that has the balls to book Pickford after ten mins of taking his first two goal kicks

Every games a tough one and I’d like 8 points from the first 6 games, less than 6 we’re struggling, anything above and we’re flying. Just seeing the games shows what a tough campaign it’s going to be.

But… He got 70% of the pot that the Tories didn’t dish out to their donors and mates. Win/win Nils
