In the spirit for calling things exactly as they are: We are seeing the next iteration of modern day slavery. It’s the next logical step in Capitalism’s inevitable slide into Fascism. Industry requires cheaper labor. For-profit prisons are only too happy to supply it, and make a tidy sum doing so.

Trump's actions this afternoon are an occasion to revisit the age old question in political philosophy first posed by Ptolemy of Lucca (c. 1236–c. 1327): "Ought a ruler declare Martial Law in parts of a country that he leads, if those places are not white enough for the leader's liking?"
