I don't like linking wapo these days but the story of how this guy is probably going to die because the idiots have cut the staff at NIH and his CAR-T is locked up in a freezer somewhere is beyond the pale.

Hey, you have to help out your friends when they're coping with an abusive relationship..😉 www.thebeaverton.com/2025/06/mcgi...

It's sad to see the service of so many men and women (my father included) tainted by association with the first "Let's Ruin Washington DC Streets to Assuage an Oligarch's Ego" parade next Saturday. This was in today's New York Times - even the Waltons (of Walmart) have had enough.

“Science has no passport, no gender, no ethnicity, no political party.” EC President Ursula von der Leyen, announcing a €500M initiative to attract top global talent. In a fractured world, science remains a unifying force – rooted in diversity, driven by curiosity, and shared by all humanity.

NEW: Harvard Faculty of Arts & Sciences announces pay freeze through 2025-26 academic year as well as "pausing all non-essential capital projects and spending" to conserve resources for lengthy legal battle.

This would result in the end of much medical research in the US. Note though that this is the Trump / Stephen Miller budget proposal. Congress doesn’t have to listen. The fight now turns to Congress.

Well that didn't take long - the stop work orders have already started at Harvard. www.thecrimson.com/article/2025...

The Former New York City General Post Office (now known as the James A. Farley Bldg.) was across 8th Avenue from Pennsylvania Station and was built to match its magnificence. And magnificent it remains. We built *post offices* like this, because it mattered to people. And people mattered.

Die Autoren von „How fascism works“ und „On tyranny“ gehen jeweils aus den USA nach Kanada und das erklärt einem recht viel über Tyrannei und Faschismus.

I'm not quite sure about etiquette for journalists covering the Pentagon. In a press conference, would it be acceptable for a reporter to ask the Secretary of Defense "Just how fucking stupid are you people?!" www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

I took this photo on a lamp post about 3 years ago in Göttingen (where I lived for a while). It sums up how I feel about the current administration and its merry band quite adequately.

We just wanted to take a moment to thank all our new supporters! Tomorrow, there will be more of us!

While everyone should certainly feel free to have a good time, it's good to remember that St Patrick's Day means more than egregious ethnic stereotypes www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERCV...

@altnih4science.bsky.social My 8 years at NIH were one of the highlights of my scientific career, and I am still damn proud of them. Yes, the place had issues, but still. The insanity happening now makes me inwardly congratulate myself for having moved to Canada in 2006. And breaks my heart
