It's mind-blowing how little attention this extraordinary statement has received. It's briefly mentioned in a couple news articles, but this MSNBC opinion piece is the only extended discussion of it I've seen: www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnb...

As a four-decade veteran of the daily journalism business, let me tell you: Every competent political reporter in this country knows that Trump is trying to establish a dictatorship. The industry's shame is that so few journalists will say so, and the ones who do lose their jobs.

I would say he follows her around like a puppy dog but so far he has survived.

Donald Trump wants you to forget that his first act in office was to pardon hundreds of violent thugs who beat cops.

The coin-operated presidency. @financialtimes.com www.ft.com/content/5481...

“.. Trump keeps claiming that all the wars that broke out under his predecessor .. would never have happened on his watch, because he .. is so strong and universally respected. Well, here is a close US ally, Bibi, ignoring Trump’s wishes ..” @opinion.bloomberg.com www.bloomberg.com/opinion/arti...

There's a lot going on so you might have missed the fact that the Chinese hack into most of our major telecom companies was found to be much worse than publicly stated good thing a bunch of dipshits obliterated whatever was left of functional telecom oversight!

SEN. PADILLA: “Saying I lunged is a lie, but that’s par for the course for this administration… I was behind the cameras listening, and at a certain point hearing Noem say they had to rescue LA from the Governor and Mayor was too much to take. So I raise my voice to ask a question.”

Palmer: Charges should be brought against each one of you AOC: Raising the prospect of charges against witnesses is a form of intimidation is it not? Palmer: I strike those words

I hope the war doesn't affect the military parade.

Newsom: "Speaker Johnson -- his eloquence was elevated when he called to 'tar and feather' the governor of California. Very religious man. I guess that's the spirit. The word of the Lord."

Newsom: "He's been a stone cold liar about what he said we talked about. He never discussed the National Guard. Period. Full stop. I would love to share with you what he actually talked about. It would send shivers up your spine."

Yesterday Bessent said the deadline for deals was flexible so today Lutnick it wasn't.

As I've highlighted recently, don't look to US Treasuries for "safe haven"/"flight to quality" flows. Their yields barely budged after the Israeli attack on Iran. Instead, watch the price of gold (below) and silver. The flows are happening; they're just not headed to USTs as history would suggest.

1. Trump's tax cuts overwhelmingly help the rich 2. His spending cuts are targeted at the poor 3. Tariffs cost the poor a larger share of their income Roll these three regressive policies together and you get the largest redistribution from poor to rich in American history. The anti-Robin Hood.

“What Senator Alex Padilla did today was political theater.” --Kristi Noem, the Head of Costuming, Hair, and Makeup at Political Theater

RFK Jr. spouted dangerous vaccine falsehoods on national TV. As a parent and infectious diseases doctor, I couldn't stay silent. Here's what the data actually shows. 🧵

Trump withdrew the U.S. from the nuke deal Obama negotiated w/Iran. Iran then bumped up its uranium enrichment, leading to what happened last night and if you're a member of the media and not connecting these dots, you're not doing your job.

Since President Donald Trump returned to office in January, his administration has bombarded the U.S. Supreme Court with emergency requests seeking immediate intervention to free up his initiatives stymied by lower courts. The strategy is paying off.

Just released this free post. Its clear after statements by Rubio and Hegseth over the last few days that Putin has won. The US government is now operating under his almost total reflexive control. Trump has made the Russian narrative the US mindset. open.substack.com/pub/phillips...

Netanyahu wanted to strike Iran when Obama was president. Obama said no and he didn’t. Netanyahu wanted to strike Iran when Biden was president. Biden said no and he didn’t. Netanyahu wanted to strike Iran when Trump is president. Trump said no and he did.

(Reuters) - On the campaign trail, U.S. President Donald Trump promised to end the world's hottest conflicts and usher in global peace, but nearly five months in, with Israel attacking Iran and bloodshed in Gaza and Ukraine unabated, those hopes are in shambles. www.reuters.com/world/middle...

“Tesla’s driverless ‘robotaxis’ could launch in Austin as soon as June 22. But a demo in Austin today showed a $TSLA, manually driven to test its Full Self-Driving system, failed to stop for a child-sized dummy at a school bus—and hit it.” @cbsaustin @velez_tx

Another story in the Guardian that should have been in an American paper …. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

This is a lie. We all saw the video. The Senator clearly identified himself, and he did not "lunge" toward anyone.   If these miserable propagandists will lie to you about roughing up a U.S. Senator in a room full of reporters, what won't they lie to you about?

Sen. Alex Padilla, who was just forcibly removed from a DHS press conference, is the ranking member of Judiciary’s subcommittee on immigration, citizenship, and border safety, which has “oversight of federal agencies with citizenship, asylum, refugee, and immigration enforcement responsibilities.”

A few key points: - Senator Padilla is the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship, and Border Safety - He identified himself as a Senator - Right before this happened Noem literally said she was there to liberate Los Angeles from its elected leadership

Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski, reacting to Senator Padilla being handcuffed and forcibly removed from Kristi Noem’s press conference: “I’ve seen that one clip. It’s horrible. It is shocking at every level. It’s not the America I know.”

DHS is also lying about him being repeatedly told to back away. The video shows the men who pushed him don’t even open their mouths, they just grab him and get them out of the room without saying a word.

Alex Padilla — a sitting U.S. Senator — was just assaulted for asking a question on behalf of his constituents. He was literally doing his job, posing no threat other than exposing the lies of this administration. 1/2

Afterwards, Sen. Padilla framed what happened in exactly the right way: "If this is how the Department of Homeland Security responds to a senator with a question...I can only imagine what they're doing to farmworkers, to cooks, to day laborers, in Los Angeles & throughout California & the country."

Senator Alex Padilla is one of the most decent people I know. This is outrageous, dictatorial, and shameful. Trump and his shock troops are out of control. This must end now.

holy shit -- GOP Rep. Mike Turner tries to "help out" Hegseth by getting him to confirm that the Pentagon does not in fact have plans to take Greenland by force, but Hegseth instead more or less testifies that yep, they have devised plans for that

This is a US Senator, one of two representing nearly 40 million people from nation's most productive, populous, and *tax paying* state, being physically roughed up by goons at behest of deranged president and out of control cabinet secretary. HEY GOP SENATORS. You'll swallow even this?

The strategy is to do your Constitutionally-approved job and make them stop you. Make them show the world that they violate the Constitution. Make them show where they draw the lines and how they want to exercise power.

A US Senator was thrown to the ground and handcuffed by federal agents, and then the DHS Secretary went on to say that they are taking control from the "socialist" local government. That is fascist, there is no other proper word for it than that. No euphemisms are necessary or warranted.

It's a real bad day for democracy: - Law enforcement forcibly removes U.S. Senator from a Cabinet member's press conference - SecDef refuses to promise to abide by court rulings - SecHome uses language of occupation and liberation to describe domestic law enforcement tasks This is coup behavior

That is the language of a coup. Not a democracy.

In my time in the Senate I've never seen a Senator treated this way. @padilla.senate.gov is carrying out his constitutional responsibility to conduct oversight and defend the people he represents. Absolutely shocking and disgusting way to handle a sitting member of Congress.

California Sen. Alex Padilla was just forcibly removed from a DHS press conference and handcuffed. "I am Senator Alex Padilla. I have questions for the secretary." Video from @Elex_Michaelson on X via Padilla's staff.

The Bullwark just posted this from Padilla's staff, that's Senator Padilla on the ground.

Disguised, regressive tax revenue, of course. 🤡

Folks, CBO estimate of the distributional effect of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act is out: www.cbo.gov/system/files... It's grotesque

It adds 2.4 trillion dollars to the national debt Thank you for your attention to this matter.

In April, President Trump and Salvadoran President Bukele shook hands in the Oval Office to celebrate a deal to ship gang members to the notorious CECOT prison. But a new ProPublica investigation found there’s more to the story. 🧵👇
