I’ve always believed in the basic decency and fairness of the American people, which is why I was so shaken by Trump’s win in ā€˜16. After his win last year, I became despondent. But I do believe that once folks finally understand the evil Trump and MAGA are doing, the people will say ā€œenough.ā€

Do you suppose Trump will pardon him, too, or does he only pardon violent protestors who trespass on Capitol grounds and those who assault police officers?

Excellent and potentially life-changing advice. We all like to think we’re smarter than the average person and can talk our way out of trouble, but when it comes to law enforcement ā€œanything you say can and will be used against you.ā€ STFU!

I’m guessing they were looking for opportunities to do this sort of thing to begin to condition the country to the arrests of elected officials not sufficiently servile to the dear leader. We’ve entered a whole new territory here — life under autocratic fascist rule. This must end NOW!

People need to read and re-read what this deranged woman just said. The Trump regime is working to ā€œliberateā€ our city from its duly elected leaders, she says. Where the hell do these would-be tyrants get off trying to overturn the righteous elected government we chose. She needs to go — NOW!

Damn, I have that compilation, too — obviously haven’t listened to it with appropriate seriousness! I’ll listen to it straight through when I get home later! 😊 (We’re on curfew in my LA neighborhood so I should have the opportunity to really listen this time!)

How have I not heard this version before?! Thanks for the post — it’s awesome!

Kimmel’s monologs are accurate, blunt and insightful. Night after night he makes the day’s news accessible and puts it in proper perspective. Some may lament that a late-night host is our best truth-teller, but this is a time-honored tradition. Jesters often get away with more. Way to go, Jimmy!

It doesn’t take a psychology degree to see that Stephen Miller is a deeply disturbed individual who’s driven by rage and hatred. Reporters ought to report the truth and that’s what Terry Moran was doing. ABC’s shocking cave-in is further evidence that we’re sliding into a fascist dictatorship.

As usual, a few bad actors are taking advantage. Five stores on my street were hit by looters last night well after the protests ended. But Trump’s the moron who kicked off this madness, and his troops are making things worse. I hope to God people see that. He poured gasoline on legit protests and šŸ”„

Unfortunately, some bad actors are taking advantage of this crisis. A bunch of stores on my street in DTLA were destroyed by looters last night well after the protests ended. Of course, this crap wouldn’t be happening if Trump hadn’t lit the fuse. Also, officers aren’t being deployed wisely.

My heart goes out to many of the folks who are the targets of the fascist immigration crackdowns, but scenes of young men waving Mexican flags, throwing bricks, burning cars and tagging everything in sight are killing us in the public’s eyes. These people are playing right into Trump’s bloody hands.

I think this is inspired! Sadly, a lot of criminal troublemakers have risen to the fascist bait and turned DTLA into a war zone. We need to replace them with people who understand Trump’s penchant for performative nonsense and match him blow for blow.

This will be a big part of Trump’s foul legacy. The GOP is now nothing but a gang of selfish mobsters who play states and people against each other to stoke fear and maintain their own power. Tuberville is a moron who understands nothing about what our country once stood for. Alabama pays the price.

I live in Downtown LA a few blocks from City Hall. Things were calm here until Trump turned up the heat. Things were cool in 2020, too, until LAPD came swooping down in riot gear. Why must the authorities turn every protest into a battleground? Stop provoking people. Stop waging war on LA residents.

Amen.

Violence is NOT the answer, especially in present day Los Angeles. It’s not only morally wrong, it’s giving the Trump forces exactly what they want. They’re itching for an excuse to declare martial law and shut down our city. Don’t give it to them!

You’re not wrong, but I’m feeling slightly nostalgic for W’s team. This current regime is evil on a whole different order of magnitude. Am I wrong to think Stephen Miller is the guy who’s really calling the shots?

I fear the incompetence of Team Trump will do at least as much damage as the corruption, the bigotry and the greed. We’re looking at a perfect storm of deadly sins.

He’s exactly right. We’ve gotten so far off track, looking up to people like Diddy and Kanye, to Andrew Tate, to the Kardashians and Elon Musk . . . our culture is poisoned by the love of money and the worship of tiny, miserable people.

Wow! The couple who saw the woman in trouble, followed them and saved the woman are genuine heroes! Folks should use caution in similar situations because the guy could have been armed, but simply recognizing the signs and contacting authorities could well save a life.

LOL. Remember when some crafty folks repurposed the last name of Pennsylvania bigot Rick Santorum to describe a specific bodily fluid. They did a good job! You can look it up.

Does anybody really believe these morons give even half a damn about equal opportunity for women? It’s all play acting and pretend for these a-holes. Everything’s a scam, a grift or a ruse. God, I’m so sick of the BS!

These hateful bullies think that beating up on others makes them look strong, like real men. It doesn’t. It makes them look cruel, unserious and pathetic. I only hope we can come together as a country to end this madness and toss them into history’s rubbish bin where they belong.

You really think that sort of comment moves things in a better direction?

That’s a good word for it. I’m afraid too many of us have adopted the templates our media employ to handle complex issues. Reduce everything to binary choices and turn the heat to full boil. Angry about Gaza? You’re as bad as the CO fire bomber. Sorry, we’re out of time. The dumbing down of America.
comment in response to post
I completely agree. But protesting the atrocities in Gaza perpetrated by the current government of Israel is not necessarily antisemitic. I say that only because it doesn’t appear our current president understands the distinction.

This appointment is despicable on many grounds, not the least of which is putting another unqualified but cocksure loser in a position of considerable authority. I’m wary of folks who claim to have all the answers, and too many of these 20-something fascists are being given keys to the kingdom.
comment in response to post
You’re absolutely right. Listen, I love Joe Biden. He’s an incredibly decent man who beat Trump and did some wonderful things in his first several years in office. But he simply wasn’t fit to run again and by pretending otherwise his team created the dynamic that elected Trump. Let’s be honest, OK?
comment in response to post
I certainly don’t mean to give Rubio any points for feeling conflicted about implementing this policy (if he is). Indeed, the fact he’s doing Trump’s bidding and abandoning his former positions to fall in line makes me dislike him even more. All of these GOP ass-kissers are beneath contempt.
comment in response to post
This may not be the worst aspect of the performative DOGE scam, but it’s interesting to note that all 20 or so of the DOGE team members are men and all but one appear to be white. Naturally, there’s more cocky self-assurance in the room than anything else. Complete failure.
comment in response to post
This is despicable, short-sighted and likely to harm our interests as much as China’s. I’m guessing Rubio’s ambivalent about much of what he’s being instructed to do, but he’s always been good at kissing ass and following orders.
comment in response to post
He may have been marginally more sane than most of the MAGA diehards, but he’s always been more concerned with pandering than governing. What’s more, he’s a dullard without an original thought in his head. He cleans up better than most Republicans, but that’s about his only asset.

This is another example of LAPD’s feckless presence in DTLA. The only time we ever see cops is when they show up in riot gear to make things worse. Police need to be a visible daily presence to deter crime and begin to build strong working relations with local residents.
comment in response to post
This rampage was a disgusting spectacle, and LAPD’s performance was horrific. Officers need to get out of the stations, helicopters and squad cars and regularly walk our streets. Establishing a visible presence will deter crime and begin to break down barriers between cops and DTLA residents.

If Biden had announced in late ā€˜23 that he wasn’t going to run we’d have had an open contest and competitive primaries. I have no idea who’d have won, but we’d have had a tested candidate with momentum and 4 or 5 months to run a vigorous general election campaign against a tired, corrupt old fool.
comment in response to post
Not sure your comment adds much to the discussion. I love Joe Biden and he did some great things, but he wasn’t fit to run in ā€˜24 and his people misled us into backing him for reelection to our detriment. I don’t want to see that happen again. We need to pick the best candidate each and every time.
comment in response to post
Biden, of course, but that’s a pointless question. Sure, my top goal is blunting Trump’s corruption and stupidity, but Dems need to figure out how to become more effective and avoid falling prey to dangerous spin from our own people. Critical analysis isn’t fun, but no pain, no gain.

LAPD needs to get out of their helicopters, cars and police stations and integrate themselves into the DTLA community. I’ve lived here 20+ years and we only see them when there’s trouble and they show up in riot gear. Visibility stops trouble before it starts and fosters cooperation and respect.
comment in response to post
DTLA is a mess largely because the police aren’t a part of our daily life here. They only show up when there’s trouble and they arrive in riot gear. Officers need to integrate into daily life and become a constructive presence. I’ve lived here 20+ years and they need to be part of the community.
comment in response to post
I’ve lived in DTLA for 20+ years and pretty much the only time we see police is when 100s show up in riot gear. Officers should be on the streets regularly interacting with residents to prevent trouble and build positive relations. Too many officers never leave the station. Visibility is key.
comment in response to post
Everything affects everything else. I love Joe Biden, but his team’s decision to prop him up and pretend he was still a sharp and vigorous leader when he clearly wasn’t made it harder for the Dems to beat Trump. I’d rather be honest ab’t what happened so we can improve and avoid more stupid mistakes
comment in response to post
Sorry, but Biden had no business running for a second term and unless and until the Dems step up and admit that we were snookered by the cabal around him we’re going to have a tough time defeating the evil forces Trump represents
comment in response to post
When you look at a variety of so-called mainstream media it’s astonishing the extent to which they’ve voluntarily bent over for Trump. Even NPR now normalizes most of his BS. The West Point speech was nothing but an insane word salad from an ignorant 3rd grader and The NY Times ought to be ashamed.

Saying he’s past his prime is giving Schumer too much credit. Aside from carrying water for Wall Street he’s never been particularly good, and he’s a disaster as Senate Democratic leader. We need someone with drive and guts, and any Democratic senator but Fetterman would be better in the role.
