The tariffs WILL raise money. For him. He will use his executive power to grant exceptions to friends and donors. They’ll avoid tariffs and gain competitive advantages. Musk will get exemptions under the guise of national security. This term will be more openly kleptocratic than the first.

German officers in the 1930s were required to swear an oath to Hitler rather than to the Weimar Republic constitution. That was a good example of advance obedience. Trump seeks similar personal, rather than constitutional, loyalty. Cite: Thomas and Lewis “Defying Hitler,” p.71.
