Also, applying for one will only drop your score a couple of points, like 5. If your score is already close to 800, it won’t affect your mortgage preapproval. The big important thing is once you’re in contract/underwriting to buy a house, absolutely NO new credit until after closing.

If you want to get your own, look into a zero annual fee cc that has some sort of points or cash back. I put almost all of my day to day spending on one and pay it in full monthly. Helps me both stay in budget and I bank the points to use on travel.
