I'm not going to reskeet the skeet that made me feel the need to say this but: NYC is a very Jewish city - public schools are closed for Yom Kippur. It's also a very Muslim city - public schools are closed for Ramadan. It's also one of the most Catholic cities in the nation.

HA HA HA EAT SHIT MOTHERFUCKER GO HOME, NOBODY LIKES YOU

The Tea Party protests in April 2009 had about a third of a million people involved, and the political media treated it like a game changer for the Obama presidency. The No Kings rallies were AT LEAST ten times bigger than the Tea Party protests. Will the press keep pretending Trump is popular?

between that, Google Images being created because of Jennifer Lopez's v revealing green dress and Facebook's prototype being used to rate students' attractiveness, it really is quite striking and grim just how much of the modern internet was created by and for sleazy men

Happy pride! See how you can support queer-owned businesses:

trans people are real and bathrooms and sports are made up. if you act like that's the other way around i do not have to hear your argument because it is based on a false premise

We're having a "scientific conferences need to become more accessible" conversation again, this time in terms of the Trump administration making it unsafe for some international colleagues to join us in the US. I'm on the Board of multiple orgs that plan conferences. Here are some thoughts. 🧵🧪🦑🌎

Somewhere in the south, a plantation just got unexpectedly promoted to the position of largest surviving Antebellum plantation and it has the chance to do the funniest thing now

We built this for you, the NYC voter. Because elections are about your views and your opportunity to express them. Who should you rank on your ballot to be the next mayor of New York City? Take the same quiz the candidates did and find your closest match. projects.thecity.nyc/meet-your-ma...

Sure, there are caveats, but for me the operating position is getting closer and closer to "there are no legitimate uses for ChatGPT in college classes," and I'm not really encountering any compelling arguments to the contrary.

This is Ozymandias, the official kitten of Magdalen College, Oxford. I learned about him 30 seconds ago and I would die for him.

Ten years ago *Last Week Tonight* aired a Mother’s Day segment on paid leave. Guess what? We *still* don’t have a national policy. Moms are done waiting. Care is essential, child care is unaffordable, and rights are under attack. 13 states stepped up. Congress, you’re next. Tag your reps.

Saw this and thought my oomfs' feeds could use this

We are seeing multiple instances of reviewers doing manuscript reviews via use of AI/LLM. If you don't want to do a review the old-fashioned way, better to decline the request. Giving someone else's manuscript to AI is a violation of intellectual property rights/laws; the manuscript isn't yours...

Dua Lipa and Sir Elton John are among 400 British musicians, writers and artists calling on the British prime minister to update copyright laws in a way that protects them from artificial intelligence. They say failing to give that protection would mean them "giving away" their work to tech firms.

It’s D&D Night, we’re all near death and surrounded by enraged emus. Long ago, when I was GMing, I gave the party a custom magic item. ME: Use it! Use it! It doesn’t matter anymore! BARD: But— ME: WE WILL DIE IN A BLAZE OF GLORY
