Really quite an excoriating indictment of university governance, this. Desperately needs to be confronted by the sector as a whole rather than swept aside as an anomaly. This is not an edge case.

It's so frustrating - it assumes that universities aren't part of the world! Seeing impact in this way also misses a crucial part of organising, which is that when you try to create change, you start with the communities you're part of already.

It's insulting. People who don't have much money - which is most people - will hear that and go, oh that's loads. It's systematically cheating the country out of tax revenue while claiming it's redistribution.
