A nerd pays the popular girl $1000 to date him for a month and thus skyrocket him to the top of the high school social hierarchy is a reliable premise that works well off the baby-faced charisma of Dempsey & Peterson. It’s both dated & fun but it still has something meaningful to say in the end.

Interesting choice but I can’t say I wouldn’t have been stoked to be in that class.

He’s a bottomless bit of cynicism and I love it. It’s been a while since I’ve listened to his podcast. I used to catch it in the early days regularly (10 years ago). But now anytime, the algorithm brings him up to me on YouTube I will watch.

The thing about his is that it’s just him talking shit to himself most of the time and he frequently acknowledges he doesn’t know shit which sets him apart from everyone else lol

This was done for Europe I believe. Always funny to watch that version since Taco Bell is such a specific reference.

Seriously, this is a movie that deserves more repertory screenings but to catch it with a Q&A like this is extra special.

If you’re gonna introduce a young kid to the buddy cop subgenre I suppose it’s as safe a choice as any.

I was thinking the same thing. The wonders a mustache will do.

I remember very little about it from 24 years ago but I’m pretty happy with that cause I’m going to rewatch it for my Touchstone thread and am looking forward to seeing it with somewhat fresh eyes.

For some reason I always recall AMISTAD being his coming out party in Hollywood even though he already done stuff (most notably a time to kill). Maybe it just felt like a big deal that Spielberg was putting him front and center.

I can get with that.

Most definitely. Badham is an excellent action director. THE HARD WAY, DROP ZONE, BLUE THUNDER. The guy could deliver.

She was in her absolute apex at that point. A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN, SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE…

A John Badham-directed buddy cop action comedy is a breath of fresh air today, especially when it is driven by the odd couple pairing of Dreyfuss and a fresh-faced Estevez. The balance of action & comedy is spot on. Not to mention, it deserves massive credit as the feature debut of Madeleine Stowe.

Right. But you got the sexy part right the first time. You totally buy that everyone in this movie fucks. A rarity in mainstream movies today.
