The cold, hard stare of someone who's seen some shit and will not hesitate to cut someone if necessary? yep. :-)

I was just telling someone (after a conversation in which we traded oblique references) that I sometime feel that our language is turning into the one from Darmok.

Phew - I did realize that it would have to be an even-numbered year after I hit 'post'. I'm not sure I see any point in looking at polling 3 years in advance, though.

Is he up for re-election this year? Why are we not hearing more about a primary?

I'm quite disturbed on your behalf that you have a doctor who can't understand the concept of "average"

I'm also surprised no one is using "no mo' Cuomo" as a slogan...

Thanks for sharing this! My top match was Ramos (whose name I've heard, but who I know little about) and #2 was Blake (whose name I've never heard)
Also surprised that they said only matched 55% w Mamdani-I've very much liked what I've heard from him so far.

Technically, none of the people that the current administration have removed from this country have been "deported". To be deported implies a legal process which hasn't been followed for any of them. Also, I don't think it counts as "deported" if they're sent to a country other than their origin.

I'm a bit embarrassed at how long it took me to figure out that this was a current news story and not something from an archive from the 1980s...

yes - can't find the article now, but 2 ppl who died at Riker's this year were being held pre-trial despite guidelines saying they should have just been given a court date and released.

Could've been worse-they could have had him transfer from the F to the R at 4th Av/9th St in Brooklyn.

I'm honestly not sure April Fools jokes were ever funny. But, the good ones are just good satire.

Also, the 1972 map had absolutely no indication of the above-group geography. Even though that's what subway maps are like in most other large cities, NYers (or maybe tourists) really disliked having no indications on the map of where stations are in the above-ground world.

A thought-if the owner doesn't have a loan from Tesla and doesn't charge from Tesla chargers, they're not putting any more $ in Elon's pocket by continuing to own the car.

But obviously, there is no such institutional pressure on gay people elsewhere, so ...?

This may have something to do with Iran recognizing transgender people, giving religious approval to gender-confirming care, but using it as a cudgel for gay people. In this 1 place (some) gay people are being forced (or at least encouraged) to transition so that they would be "straight"

I'm not sure I buy that. They've just failed to install their own activist judges. Every accusation is usually a tell of what they really want to do.

Umm...Any scientific journal article has to discuss potential biases in its analysis. Prohibiting discussion of bias is prohibiting the conduct of any scientific inquiry.
