I remember Dom Hockey, a monk historian at Quarr Abbey, IoW, in the 1980s, complaining indignantly that his brothers fell asleep when he practised his academic papers upon them. (Originally Cistercian foundation, it was refounded in 1907 as Benedictine house.)

A problem that I have with this, doubtlessly accurate and necessary change, is that the word Byzantium is redolent of oriental mystery, while East Roman sounds like a stop on the urban metro. 🤷🏽‍♂️
