Sad to hear this news. He might not have got every decision correct, but he broke down barriers and was a great advocate for making sport (and wider society) more inclusive.

"Don't you think he looks tired" (as #DoctorWho might have said)

A year of songs, day 159: Released in 1980, this was Kool & The Gang's first and only single to reach No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100. It was inspired by a passage in the Quran where God created Adam, and the angels were celebrating and singing praises. #music #disco #funk #80s #Kool&TheGang

The Astoria neighbourhood in Queens, New York, is home to a large Egyptian community. Lunch today is Egyptian stuffed flatbread with a yoghurt and mint dip. The flatbread is stuffed with lamb mince, spring onions & Egyptian spices. Recipe from Jamie Oliver. #homecooking #food #lunvh #America #Egypt

A year of songs, day 158: Released in 1997, this was the lead single from The Verve's seminal album 'Urban Hymns'. One of my favourite songs of all time. #music #TheVerve #britpop #90s www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lyu...

Another American classic tonight: BBQ ribs. Served with a candied bacon, clementine and pomegranate salad. Recipes from Jamie Oliver. #homecooking #BBQ #ribs #America #food #bacon #salad

A few close ups from this afternoon. #garden #walks #flowers

A lovely stroll around RHS Harlow Carr this afternoon. Bought a few fruit plants from their shop too. #RHS #garden #walk #flowers

The Waldorf salad was created in 1893, supposedly by Oscar Tschirsky, the nature d'hotel of the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York. It's a simple combo of lettuce, apple, grape, celery, walnuts and blue cheese. Recipe by Jamie Oliver. #lunch #salad #NewYork #America #Waldorf #homecooking

Breakfast today is a dish created by the writer Arnold Bennett while he was staying at the Savoy Hotel in New York. Apparently, from then on, he requested it everywhere he travelled from then. Omelette Arnold Bennett. Recipe by Jamie Oliver. #breakfast #food #homecooking #NewYork #America #Savoy

At the theatre to see the musical "Chess" #theatre #Chess #ABBA

A real American classic for #dinner tonight. Mac n cheese. In this version, Jamie Oliver adds garlic and tomatoes. I also added some bacon! #homecooking #food #comfortfood #America

A year of songs, day 157: This track is a real tear-jerker. A hugely emotional ballad, this piano led song speaks of heartbreak and loneliness. The verse was based on the 2nd movement of Russian composer Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor. #music #ballad #heartbreak #EricCarmen

New York is a melting pot, home to people from all over the world. There is a sizable Chinese community, especially in Queens. This dish - fiery dan dan noodles - comes from the Szechuan province of China. Recipe from Jamie Oliver. #homecooking #dinner #America #NewYork #China #food #noodles

A year of songs, day 156: Alicia Keys shared this dreamlike song on her website in February 2014. She wrote the tune in the late 2000s but it had remained unreleased for several years. It was apparently inspired by a piece of art. #music #AliciaKeys #pop #R&B

A year of songs, day 155: Although originally recorded by Billy Preston in 1974 as the B-side of his single 'Struttin', this song was more famously later released by #JoeCocker. It became Cocker's highest-charting solo hit in the US, and shows off his gravelly voice perfectly #music #pop #soul #70s

What better way to start a journey through American cuisine than with the food that they're known the world over for: the cheeseburger, stacked with bacon, gherkin, tomato, fried onion and lettuce. Served with sweet potato fries. Recipe from Jamie Oliver. #homecooking #burger #dinner #food #America

This month's recipe book of choice is "Jamie's America" by Jamie Oliver. It's split into 6 sections; each covering a different city or state. I probably won't get through all 6 in a month, but I'm aiming to do at least 4. #food #recipebook #America #JamieOliver

A year of songs, day 154: Is it really almost 3 years since Olivia Newton-John died? Here she is singing the title song of the cult 1980 musical fantasy film 'Xanadu', which she starred in alongside Michael Beck and Gene Kelly. #music #pop #disco #Xanadu #OliviaNewtonJohn #80s

Mushroom risotto, using #homegrown mushrooms (plus a few dried porcinis from the cupboard!) #mushrooms #homecooking #food #dinner

A year of songs, day 153: This song was EVERYWHERE in 2021. Based on a New Zealand folk song, this track by Scottish singer Nathan Evans became a viral hit on TikTok, leading to a social media craze around sea shanties. #music #seashanty #NathanEvans #Wellerman

Spiced lentils with mint yoghurt. Recipe from @nigelslater.bsky.social #homecooking #food

A year of songs, day 152: Although the Amy Winehouse cover of this track became more famous, I still prefer the original by the Merseyside band The Zutons. Maybe that's because I'll always be an indie boy at heart. #music #TheZutons #AmyWinehouse #indie #00s

Im not sure what to make of that #DoctorWho finale. Might have to watch it a second time

I think this might be the most Springtime meal ever. Rosemary and garlic lamb, served with minted Jersey Royal potatoes, buttered asparagus, and #homegrown carrots in a creamy herb sauce. Recipe from @nigelslater.bsky.social #homecooking #food #dinner #lamb #Spring #Jersey

A busy afternoon in the garden planting (and in some cases moving) fruit bushes and trees. #garden #gardening #fruit

Cauliflower and bacon soup, topped with roasted hazelnuts. Recipe from @nigelslater.bsky.social, though I did tweak it a bit by roasting the cauliflower rather than just boiling it. #lunch #soup #homecooking #food

A year of songs, day 151: "So I want to make a musical about trains. Where all the actors are on roller skates." It's a bonkers pitch. But somehow, Andrew Lloyd Webber managed to convince people it would work. This number is a riff on the song 'D-I-V-O-R-C-E'. #music #theatre #StarlightExpress

A year of songs, day 150: I couldn't do a month of musical theatre songs without including a bit of Stephen Sondheim. Based on a Victorian penny dreadful, this musical features a murderous barber who helps turn people into pies! #music #theatre #SweeneyTodd #Sondheim

A lovely meal out with a friend tonight, followed by a trip to the cinema. #food #friendship #dinner #Italy
