It's a politically charged coming-of-age lit fic novel, set in mid-00s West Yorkshire. Think 𝘈𝘥𝘰𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 mashed with 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘐𝘴 𝘌𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥 and 𝘍𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘗𝘪𝘵𝘤𝘩. Huge thanks to @newwritingnorth.bsky.social for everything they do and to this year's Northern Writers' Awards judges for giving me this boost 🙏🏻

The award is for writers who identify as having a working-class background and who are based in the North and also, crucially, who don't have literary representation. So, if any agents happen to see this and are curious, feel free to slide into my DMs!!

The BBC has been a disgrace. Even calling it a conflict or a war is deeply problematic. If you saw a group of full-grown men beating up a toddler, you wouldn't call it a fight.

You're totally right, sorry! Good to know the actual story behind it!

I'm fairly sure they dropped it in 1998 when they launched the new (current) badge. "AFC" was used to differentiate Association Football from Rugby Football (a lot of people called them "Soccer" and "Football" respectively back in the day). But by the late '90s, it wasn't needed anymore.
