He was there with his whole family (2 kids and his wife). A few people noticed and called him a cunt. It must be wild to have that weird of a dad.

left-wing Christian movements that adopt a nationalistic characteristic aren't any less complicated and you can feel whatever way you want about them, but it's a difference that makes a difference.

I think that's fair. I'll have to read more. This is a place where guilt is unhelpful. We can't control the historical situation that gave rise to CN. But, to me at least, it's helpful to keep it on the map of Christianity as a guide of what particular affects and ideas give rise to fascism.

We are allowed to judge and distance ourselves from things like Christian nationalism, but we have to acknowledge that the only way we got CN is through Christianity. My fear with saying it's not Christian too strongly is that it's an easy out for our complicity in its creation.

Ah this is good stuff. The way Bernays transformed propaganda into PR is always so enlightening and fun to learn about.

I'm not saying you should give space to people with right-wing ideas, but that organizing people away from fascism requires that you actually talk to them! In real life even!

The political beliefs of people in the US are extremely inconsistent and mushy, and assuming that everyone on the right is simply a hardened fascist is more alienating than it is helpful. It isn't easy, but dialogue is possible, and it should be desirable because the opposite is far worse.

haha exactly. It is demonic just not the way Rod thinks. I feel like it's actually worse than demons because it's not little guys from hell, it's tech bros.
