A poem a day keeps the doom-scroll away… Poetry Please & Toger McGough are back! 4pm @BBCRadio4 with a selection of listener requests curated by award-winning Cumbrian poet Jacob Polley @picadorbooks.bsky.social Producer Sally Heaven. Also @BBCSounds www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m...

An #Otwituary for funk legend #SlyStone Who perfected the funk? I think I know; a stoned prince high on his own supply of uncut soul, wearing euphoria as a robe. Here you come with mud in your veins; thank you (falettinme dance again).

The long overdue knighthood for Billy Boston is magnificent, but it highlights how poor Welsh rugby was on issues of race relations. The gap between Sir Billy going north and Mark Brown becoming the first black Welsh rugby union international was a time of shame for Welsh rugby

"Tim Smith's music was such a strong influence, I found it very difficult writing music that didn’t just sound like crap Cardiacs. It took me about ten years really to figure out a way of having my own voice." Fascinating interview with @craigfortnam.bsky.social. budsandspawn.co.uk/craig-fortna...

Worth noting LBJ used the National Guard to protect and expand civil rights; DJT is doing exactly the opposite.

Launches. matthewpaulpoetry.blog/2025/06/08/l...

kind of just endlessly sad and grieving that there are so few voices in the public sphere making the basic principled argument that immigration is an affirmative good in every way and the best way for this country to serve humanity is to welcome people who want or need to leave their homes

Today, 2pm, Doncaster Brewery Tap. Poems and thunderstorms guaranteed.

Ahead of my launch in Doncaster tomorrow pm, here's a poem (first published in Poetry Salzburg Review) from my new collection. My first collection included one about toads, sparked by a Gilbert White diary entry from 1768 & which you can read, and hear, here: wordsforthewild.co.uk/swallowing-t...

In amongst all the excitement I fear many have missed this outstanding bit of trolling by Friedrich Merz. The Chancellor gifted Trump a gilded framed copy of his grandfather’s German birth certificate... reminding Americans that Trump is both the child and grandchild of migrants.

This Saturday afternoon, the first of the launch events for my new poetry collection is happening in Doncaster. I’ll be reading, along with fab guests, @vickygwriter.bsky.social and Ed Reiss. Details here: crookedspirepress.com/the-last-cor...

Let's start by saying this thread, although influenced by the tragic events in Liverpool this week, has been a long time in gestation. Can we talk about male rage and motor vehicles?

Fabulous, Craig - thanks for my copy. Looking forward to the gig in Sheffield Sunday week.

Matthew Paul will be launching his new collection The Last Corinthians (Crooked Spire Press) with readings in Doncaster, London and Nottingham, plus an online launch, over the next few months! First up: Doncaster Brewery Tap, Saturday 7 June More here: crookedspirepress.com/the-last-cor...

An #Otwituary for @privateeyenews.bsky.social columnist and cartoonist #BarryFantoni So, farewell then E. J. Thribb. ‘So, farewell then’, that was your catchphrase. Not very catchy, though Keith’s mum liked it, as did all your readers, who now will not know when someone has died.

Huge congratulations to Deepa Bhasthi, Banu Mushtaq and fellow Sheffield publishers @andotherstories.bsky.social on their amazing Booker Prize win! 🥳🥳🥳

A piece by me on a fantastic poem by @pamthompson240.bsky.social - matthewpaulpoetry.substack.com/p/on-pam-tho...

I think the fact that a politician is even running for office when they're close to 80 is a red flag that something's wrong with them. Who wants a job when they're 80? I plan to be sitting in my recliner at 80,reading books through my bifocals & talking to my grandkids in the holosphere or whatever.

Astonishing evidence at the Covid Inquiry. The Government repeatedly ignored offers from the Crick Institute to provide mass testing on a national scale. Instead, the Government paid Deloitte consultants to project manage, not yet established, privately run labs. 1/2

Of course he is. He's been s nasty little fascist since school.
