The energy provisions in the Republicans' One Big Horrible Bill are truly so bad! Who wants this? The country's automakers don't want it. Electric utilities don't want it. Data center developers don't want it. Manufacturers in energy intensive industries don't want it. 🔌💡

While I understand why princess Kate would want to be private about her cancer treatment, she could do a world of good for cancer survivors by being more open about her recovery and (seeming?) need for time for recovery www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/ro...

Nice to get to talk to the New York Times @nytimes.com about funding challenges around publicly available precompetitive geoscience data acquisitions and geological mapping right when these data are more vital than ever for national and economic security: www.nytimes.com/2025/06/20/c...

While Mike Lee and Steve Daines' Senate Natural Resources Committee amendment to the budget reconciliation package mandates the sale of up to 3.3 million acres of public land, what most people miss is that it also authorizes the sale of 258 million acres. That's 40 percent of all public land:

This gets worse every time I look at this map- insane amounts of giant swaths of land in Idaho, Colorado, Wyoming…

FYI: The House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, Democratic Staff, is trying to get more info on the impact of recent research grant terminations. If your award has been canceled since Jan 20, you can fill out this survey: democrats-science.house.gov/grantcancela...

Current events call for a "don't let the bastards grind you down" kind of post. These #Ordovician #bryozoans, #brachiopods & #gastropods entered the #fossilrecord ~450 MYA only to be scoured by a Pleistocene glacier. Be like these #fossils - endure! Verulam Fm, Ramara Tp, #Ontario 🇨🇦 #FossilFriday

The craziest thing about this fight between Trump and Elon Musk is that Republicans are trying to take away health care from 16 million people to pay for tax cuts for billionaires.

New isotope tracer?! 🤷‍♂️⚒️🧪

What is the use of discussing “the state of science 🧪 “ without stating the current truths about this and offering solutions to those terrible truths??? Agreed: The National Academies should do what they’ve done since Lincoln and “stand up for the truth.” arstechnica.com/science/2025...

Read this last night when my new issue of HCN arrived… really good!🧪

Finally, some unqualifiedly good news: “those who consumed the most caffeine (equivalent to nearly seven eight-ounce cups of coffee per day) had odds of healthy aging that were 13 percent higher than those who consumed the least caffeine (equivalent to less than one cup per day)”

Cuts have consequences, illustrated. As seen on TV 📺

This proposed budget is a policy statement, not an appropriation. There are still a lot of steps and potential changes ahead before it becomes one. This is not a time to sit quietly, team. Let's go.

“These students are not just participants in science. They are crucial to its evolution…The termination of programs that have been shown to reduce barriers to STEM inclusiveness means a narrowing of scientific inquiry and a missed opportunity to expand the scope and relevance of research.”

I spent five weeks talking to federal workers about knowledge loss and brain drain across the federal government, and its implications, both right now and for decades to come. Their stories are frightening, but I think it's important to know what we're facing: www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

He should RTO and make sure to send the shareholders a list of five things he’s accomplished every week

Absolutely surreal to have lived through the Napster days and watched as the titans of industry moved hell and high water to lock down any possible chance that someone's song might get swapped online without giving the studios a cut and now those same people are just like "well we gotta steal music"

you are all sharing an incomplete and inferior version of the hot dog list which, it so happens, was originally posted ten years ago this week

Dear science journalism, Please start including the funding source and whether it has been imperiled by the coup in your coverage of cool new science papers. The public should know the floor is being cut out from under us.
