[Deleted and reposted because I idiotically misspelled the name of the store and Bluesky doesn't allow edits.]

I didn't understand why the parade was preceded by a street sweeper until I saw the marchers were barefoot!

I get that a lot, too. Happy to help when I can. But I'll admit I also know that pit-of-your-stomach awful feeling when you realize too late you gave somebody the wrong directions.

I'm sure you've encouraged others to add some of these forgotten books to our reading lists. The hunt can be fun. And though I live in the present, I strongly believe in not forgetting the past. Culture can seem so disposable sometimes, which is a shame. Yours is a worthy service.

I enjoy Tey. And FYI, the early Hitchcock movie "Young and Innocent" is loosely based on this novel.

I had a friend named Holly Esther, who told me she was almost named Polly Esther until her parents realized what they were about to do.

The character limit forces me to ruthlessly edit, which can be good practice for concise writing.

On that topic, I also recommend "Red Famine", by Anne Applebaum.

I love how all three presidents, from completely different backgrounds, have the same early-Hollywood mid-Atlantic accent.

I haven't seen "Mixed Nuts" since seeing it new in the theater, but I remember really liking it, and his performance was especially touching.

At least a Reno brothel offers the promise of getting screwed in the fun way, not like the way Trump is screwing us.

Typically, when the culprit is unmasked in these Golden Age mysteries, they're given a brief speech to defiantly state their reasons. In this one, the culprit rants on for a REALLY long time, for pages, if I recall, leaving everyone, including me, downright numb. I admired that.
