@movingsideways.bsky.social Mr. Hauselt, I’ve got to tell you that I’m right there with you with the ever-so scoldy and supremely self-important “Dr.” TP. I love when you call her out. And that’s a FACT!

Lawyers have a duty to defend our Constitution. It is an absolute outrage that, in order to curry favor with Trump and continue making their billions, giant law firms like Paul Weiss have abrogated their responsibilities. Thanks to those defending democracy. We will remember.

I have been hearing from people that they have been having issues accessing their Social Security accounts. INSTEAD of going to a branch which may be hundreds or 1Ks+ of miles away from you, call your members of Congress. They have constituent services that will help you regain access. Please share!

This is the wildest story I have literally ever read. In any normal circumstances, a half-dozen senior officials would be forced to resign over this—starting with the National Security Advisor. And I doubt anyone will face any accountability at all.

🚨 Big SCOOP 🚨 Tax revenue could fall by as much as **10%** this year, per sources, as taxpayers and businesses see the Trump admin as less likely to challenge tax cheats. That'd be **$500 BILLION** in lost revenue. It'd nearly double the tax gap in a single year.

"On October 8, 1931, a law went into effect requiring every Italian university professor to sign an oath pledging their loyalty to the government of Benito Mussolini. Out of over 1,200 professors in the country, only 12 refused. All of them were immediately fired." www.chronicle.com/article/what...

In partnership with @freedom.press, WIRED will make all of its FOIA-based reporting free to access for anyone. Public records should be public, and I hope to see more outlets follow suit: freedom.press/issues/wired...

Dear @americanbar.org, Attorney General Pam Bondi and her Justice Department is making a mockery of U.S. law. What are you going to do about it?

No Dem Senator has to follow Schumer here. This is a weak stategic move driven by fear and learned helplessness. Don't follow him. He's leading the party into irrelevance and helping Trump and Musk in the process. Call your Dem Senators and ask them not to join Schumer's surrender tomorrow.

Take a minute to read this whole deep-dive on Brad Schimel's no-holds-barred loyalty to Donald Trump. This link is paywall-free. And then share it with anyone you know in Wisconsin—or who could donate or volunteer to help Susan Crawford in the April 1 Wi Sup Ct race. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/13/u...

The Trump family has reportedly discussed taking a stake in the exiled crypto exchange Binance, at the same its billionaire founder is angling for a pardon.

“we have to be able to commit war crimes to win wars” is the type of thing a 16-year-old dumbass says and — well, yeah, hegseth is basically a 16-year-old dumbass

The coolest thing I’ve seen today is that a bunch of volunteer public health professionals and developers have restored the CDC website from before January 20th 2025. This differs from an archive in that they want to rebuild the links between pages and replicate the full website.

“let”

I smell some good trouble

Trump has dropped or halted more than 1 in 5 investigations and enforcement actions against corporate lawbreakers.  At least 34 of those companies — including Tesla, Amazon, and Wells Fargo — gave over $34M to Trump's inaugural.  It's a new Golden Age for corporate criminals.

J Pod is back in the Sound today and we’re ecstatic to have a March visit from this sweet fam.

If you're 60, 69.1% of all job growth since your birth occurred under Democratic administrations. If you're 45, that number is 74.7%. If you're under 30, the number is 100%.

This actually tells you a lot.

💉🧵The trend to ban mRNA vaccines is extremely concerning. Montana recently voted down a ban and Idaho is introducing a bill to criminalize their use. mRNA vaccines have been studied since 1990 and are a critical scientific advancement. An mRNA vaccine against pancreatic cancer is in clinical trials

What he said about Social Security payments has been repeatedly debunked - so the question isn’t whether he’s lying about this, the question is why. What is this a pretext for? He and the GOP have long shown interest in going after Social Security. What are they going to try?

Trump just threatened to cut the CHIPS Act… after his administration celebrated a huge manufacturing investment it made possible YESTERDAY. Yet another falsehood & attempt to give American power to authoritarian nations like China.

For any REI members who may not realize there is a Board election, or that it is contentious, see this. I ended up supporting one and not supporting the other two. do your research, make your call and VOTE.

Being able to drop a quarterly US GDP prediction by 5.1% from +2.3% to -2.8% in a single week is one of the most impressive economic developments in the history of the world.

Already hearing that Republican members have been showing up to the House floor trying to take up the Dem side seats for the joint address 💀

It’s impressively Orwellian how they’ve coopted the language of freedom to pursue it’s opposite. “Free speech” is the cover for actively promoting slurs and disinformation, but of course no barrier to threatening actual government coercion against speakers they dislike.

As surely as if bombs are being dropped on our cities, we are trashing our economy by trashing science: "Estimates of the value of weather and climate information to the U.S. economy exceed $100 billion annually, roughly 10x the investment made by U.S. taxpayers." www.ametsoc.org/ams/about-am...

There it is: Trump announces the US will not be enforcing its new shell company registry, which is the single-best tool to counter kleptocracy.

18F was dissolved because it saved money. We pushed back against contractors who tried to screw American taxpayers. We showed how cheap and good government software can be. Musk hates that. writing by Dan Tangherlini via @donmoyn.bsky.social

New, from me: Musk is not just destroying core government functions, he is also destroying the tech capacity of government. The people with serious tech skills who care about fixing govt have been fired. Both 18F and the US Digital Service are gone. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/skilled-te...

None of those conditions exist, nor does it make any sense to "peel Russia off of China." China is one of our major trading partners, Russia is a failing petrostate mired in an imperial invasion! The realpolitik goes the opposite way; we get nothing from favoring Russia over China.
