What other group of "workers" are treated in this way? Are teachers threatening on a regular basis to leave the city when a new Mayor is elected? How about construction workers? Maybe folks will understand why some of us refuse to consider them workers.

The other day I was explaining "mind the penumbras" and the increasing obsolescence of carolene products fn 4 to a non-lawyer and then I started fucking spiraling as I realized the entire profession takes for granted that the centrist position is to be evil

Next time Democrats say that they want to find someone who excites young voters and gets more people engaged, think about how extraordinarily weird and racist they got when Mamdani won his primary by a landslide.

I’m a Jew who lived in NYC for a decade and decided to leave due to affordability issues. The idea that Zohran doesn’t take Jewish safety seriously is ridiculous and racist. It’s so harmful to conflate support for Jewish supremacy in Israel with concern for Jewish safety in the United States.

"Mountainhead" has a fun third act, but the screenplay really needed more time in the oven. As is, it assumes that normal people are always moments away from total carnage in the streets and need just one piece of misinformation to light the fuse, which is a very cruel thing to assume about people.

You ever think of how much good he could have done with that metaverse bullshit money? Like he could have cut childhood poverty in half and been beloved for generations but instead he was like LEGS LEGS LEGS and no one got anything at all except those funny pictures of him

Congrats once again to Congressional Dems and the Biden White House for heading off SCOTUS reform before it could ever get real legs. This opinion shows exactly how much respect SCOTUS has for you and the fairy tales about "cherished norms" and "judicial independence" you handcuffed yourselves to.

🚨By a 6–3 vote, the Supreme Court rules that universal injunctions likely exceed federal courts' authority and rolls back the injunctions protecting birthright citizenship from Trump's attack. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...

You started to see a ton of this during the first trump administration; and it’s only accelerated since: politicians and media figures creating an idea that there was some grand conflict between Muslim and Jewish Americans when they are consistently allies who are far far from the primary source of…

one of the things that's so invigorating about Mamdani's win is how upset the right seems to be. it shouldn't matter to them what flavor of Democrat runs New York City, but they're unnerved because they know that his style of progressive populism has broad appeal.

"A rampant force of homogenization" is a feature, not a bug.

Most of the ideas mentioned in this article—higher minimum wage, free tuition at public colleges, higher taxes on the rich—are not only popular now but were realities in the past, including in NYC, during the booming postwar years, when America was “great.”/1 www.nytimes.com/2025/06/25/u...

This is true in most parts of America.

among other things, a really core, central point about kristallnacht was that it was not, in fact, spiritual.

"it is crucial to observe who played 9/11 Politics against Zohran. Who made a deliberate point of trying to make Jews like me hate and fear Zohran. It was DoorDash, Bloomberg, Ackman, Karp, and the rest. It was capital." www.forever-wars.com/this-is-the-...

Hell yeah

This is, in fact, how democracy is supposed to work

Having ethics and a sense of public duty is good, actually

crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their consultants

give brad lander a gundam

i would like it a lot of zohran did whatever it takes to keep lander involved with the campaign. ride a tandem bike with him in your ads man this is great stuff

Excellent column. Gessen's daughter is dead-on that the people accusing Mamdani and others of antisemitism are people who have only read about antisemitism in a book, or heard about it in family histories. The fear is very deep-rooted, but reactive and inapt. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/24/o...

Tenets of contemporary American centrism: 1) I think racism and bigotry are generally impolite and ruin a dinner party 2) I deserve every material and social comfort and should never have to sacrifice anything for the benefit of anyone else ever 3) I care about 2 way more than 3.

the reaction to Mamdani's campaign is clear proof that centrism is a reactionary ideology, and has nothing to do with a pragmatic desire to win.

The one silver lining of the Roberts Court is that it will destroy the credibility of the Supreme Court to such an extent that liberals can no longer believe that it will be our salvation.

FREEZE FRAME Well them Duke boys gotta be wondering right now whether they should be doing more to lower carbon emissions

bill clinton:

If Democrats truly want to appeal to young men, they should probably start presenting themselves as the party that definitively *won’t* draft you into an illegal war.

No war with Iran, full stop. Absolutely psychotic seeing them run the exact same playbook from 20 years ago despite the fact that we are explicitly the aggressor here

Politics hasn't been this simple in a long time: do you think it's good for one man to exercise unchecked, arbitrary power or not. Those are the two available ideologies right now

Yet Luigi launched a thousand hand-wringing op-eds from the chattering class. Makes you think

We have a madman in the White House who is actively trying to trigger total war. If Jeffries, Schumer, or any other Democratic leaders try to justify this, shrug indifferently, or write a strongly-worded letter and call it a day, they need to step down or be aggressively primaried.

Impeachment now. This is not a legal gray area - this open defiance of our constitutional system.
