I remember going into City Hall, autumn of '86, seeing the "No Nuclear Weapons" sign on the wall. It was really beautiful, one of the many wonderful things about having Harold Washington as Mayor. Glad this law is still in effect.

No votes for their nominees. Play hardball. Last chance to make the Senate a meaningful place to serve.

I've read that Haussmann's redesign of Paris with broad boulevards aimed to stop people from blocking the streets in a rebellion. After rebellions of 1960s, US college campuses were designed with exterior halls, so students can't occupy a floor/building (no toilets or water). Long history here.

Thanks for this beautiful article on the real human cost of making "immigration" a political talking point. This great local reporting is why I subscribe to the Chicago Sun-Times though I've lived on the W coast 40 years.

for example, Jack Kerouac was called "Ti-Jean" growing up. I think he referred to himself that way in something or other; long time since I read it.

The biggest problem for the military now is the difficulty of getting capable & qualified people to enlist. Belittling or harassing service members who are gay (or women, people of color, Muslim, etc) can only make it way harder to retain & enlist qualified people.
