"It's really hard to fathom that the guy making my pizza for 25 years is a gangster and a terrorist, and the person who shows up in an unmarked car wearing a mask and body armor comes to take him away is somehow the good guy” www.wnep.com/article/news...

It seems pretty obvious where this is headed.

Today in “neither our media nor our political system is designed to deal with a far right authoritarian party”

👇🎯 Floating exchange rates & the exponential growth of international capital flows & having the world's dominant reserve currency The balance of payments has two sides The things you think are mainly about trade are really mainly about international finance Etc.

not enough said about how, by turning the national government against states on the basis of ordinary political disagreement, trump is undermining the idea that the union is worthwhile. www.cnn.com/2025/06/06/p...

Federal workers are disproportionately female, nonwhite, & urban, esp. in agencies being cut (nwlc.org/resource/att...). So, along w/ the general offensiveness, this is yet another case of the double standard about respect for "Real Folkz" applied to the two parties, where only rural white men count

Remember all those best trade offers the U.S. received this past Wednesday? Yeah, neither do I. danieldrezner.substack.com/p/the-curiou...

Columbia administrators: "Wow we really couldn't screw things up any more." "Challenge accepted."

This is both an entirely reasonable strategy for Willliams right now, &, unfortunately, exactly what the fascists want

Once again, behold the unparalleled parsimony & explanatory power of the Dennis Green Unified Theory Of 🇺🇸 Politics Verily, it unlocks & resolves so many apparent puzzles & conundrums that tie folks in knots on a daily basis:

A center-right pro-democracy Republican Party that still mostly believed in property rights & the rule of law

The fascist immigration policy is also bad fiscal policy

Don't print lies in the newspaper

Again, folks look at you like you're crazy when you say we're in the midst of the worst & most unprecedented Article I constitutional crisis in American history, & then, well 👇🤷‍♂️ If a Democrat tried this, the impeachment/removal would already have happened

For a second, I thought @mchorowitz.bsky.social had become an IPE guy 🤔

Other, more serious countries have actual constitutional courts

Yes and yes. But also, this highlights a fundamental anti-democratic problem at the core of our broken political institutions in 🇺🇸: bsky.app/profile/mcop...

Any valid D-Day remembrance should also note that Brits came ashore at Sword and Gold. And the Canadians bravely fought their way through a hail of bullets at Juno. And volunteer forces from France, Norway, and Poland fought their way to shore with them. -OS

So we're already in the trying people in absentia stage of autocracy

If the federal government had the goods on Kilmar Abrego Garcia, they should have prosecuted him consistent with the due process of law and not railroaded him into a dangerous prison despite his protected status. This is a vindictive abuse of the system. Pure and simple.

The Trump Administration always had the power to bring Kilmar Abrego back. They were always lying about this, all of it was lies. abcnews.go.com/US/mistakenl... They chose to disobey court orders because they are authoritarians who regard the Constitution as an inconvenience.

Time will tell how legitimate these newfound trafficking charges are, but the key points today are 1) the US government always had the power to bring Abrego Garcia back and 2) renditioning people to third countries and dispensing with their due process rights remains un-American.

No one could possibly have predicted that we were going to magically rediscover that voters and the public care about unemployment now that Joe Biden was no longer in the White House bsky.app/profile/mcop...

An authoritarian personality cult - putting up (horrible) paintings of himself, wants to put up a statue of himself at the Kennedy Center, going to spend $1B+ on parade, plane, DHS ads praising him, etc.

Just saw a post by @mcopelov.bsky.social of Eisenhower's letter to the troops on D-Day. This is the "in case of defeat" letter that was never sent. I find it so inspiring. Our leaders used to take responsibility for failures as well as successes.

Once again: Don't print lies in the newspaper Don't host liars on the tv shows Don't ask "does the sun rise in the East?" when you can look outside & observe the direction of the sunrise

According to historian John Ross, when President-elect John Kennedy asked outgoing President Eisenhower why D-Day had gone so well, Eisenhower replied, “Because we had better meteorologists than the Germans!"

👇🎯 This, plus the wild category mistake that it is in a moment when 🇺🇸 is collapsing into authoritarianism

Today in "Folks look at you like you're crazy when you say we're in the midst of the worst Article I constitutional crisis in 🇺🇸 history & yet..."

Once again, I am begging him & these people to take even a single introductory political science course.

Every Wisconsin voter deserves an equal vote in electing their representatives. Law Forward has filed a new challenge arguing that the state's current congressional maps constitute an anti-competitive gerrymander that violates the Wisconsin Constitution.
