I'm just a simple political scientist but it sure seems like an unpopular president taking power when there were no riots and then there being riots probably will become more unpopular

African officials express concern that the nuclear armed, ethnically volatile former British colony is sleepwalking towards a human rights disaster. #NewsIfUSAWasAForeignCountry

Perhaps Newsom should have spent less time chumming around with authoritarian buffoons on his podcast and more time preparing and strategizing for the entirely predicable thing that is happening in his state right now.

ICE is a much greater threat to this country than illegal immigrants. The current administration ia by far the greatest threat this country faces. The problem is not st our borders. It is in the White House.

Caught and killed the story so the politics desk could instead run stories "Biden has Parkinsons" on A1

Performative public lying is a hallmark of far right authoritarian parties

Why are we here, with the fascists lying & bringing in troops to put down nonexistent insurrections? This. This total failure to punish <actual> insurrection is why we’re here. No one could possibly have predicted. A total & comprehensive failure of our constitutional order.

Reports of the death of the Westphalian system were greatly exaggerated

These are already happening πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

We don't have secret police in America. At least we're not supposed to.

Every accusation was a confession "American carnage"

Welcome to America, where protesting illegal kidnappings without due process is an insurrection, but attacking the nation’s Capitol is not.

If confirmed, this would represent a version of Charlottesville, but where government officials are the ones driving into protestors

The LA protests will trigger a drumbeat of "law and order" messaging from the White House and their media allies as a prelude to invoking the Insurrection Act. This is entirely predictable, and any Dem or media outlet that facilitates this narrative will be aiding Trump's authoritarian project.

Once again, folks look at you like you're crazy when you say we're in the midst of the worst & most unprecedented Article I constitutional crisis in American history, & then, well, πŸ‘‡πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸŽ―

This is a massive point of national shame for all of us

"That's one hell of an act. What do you call it?" "The Kakistocrats!"

This is the πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ power and hegemony we need

Paramilitaries, you say? πŸ€”

I can't help but feel we are rapidly approaching the point where attempts to disappear individuals, hold them indefinitely, and brutalize protesters is going to be met with retaliatory violence. The indicators are all there and the chance for wild, paradigm-changing clashes is growing.

The kids these days will hardly bel- oh, never mind

Other, more serious, actually democratic countries have actual constitutional courts

The case for more, not less, liberal arts education remains stronger than ever

When people show you who they are, over and over again, believe them

It's the Washington Monument in the background that really takes this to next-level dystopian
