Blakey Howe (Farndale Moor): A bronze age round barrow with an 18th century boundary stone on top, this may be a reused prehistoric standing stone. There is also a 1.

Volkmarskeller: The Volkmarskeller (Volkmar's Cellar) is said to be a natural karst cave. It was probably used in prehistoric times, as evidenced by finds made in the surrounding area. The first documented mention of the cave dates back to 956CE.

I was last here around 20 years ago. Trefignath on Ynys Gybi - midday today. #TombTuesday @stoneclub.bsky.social @megalithic.bsky.social

Stone Head of Salaspils replica: Looking like a grumpy dolmen, this replica of the original Stone Head of Salaspils is set in a corner of Livu Laukums (Livu Square), Riga. Being surrounded by trees, it is, alas, always in their shade.

Pen Pumlumon-Arwystli: A really long walk no matter which way you come from - a long uncomfortable slog of a walk. But the view is really quite splendid (for mid Wales). And the three cairns are really very good. More photos and info on our page. 📷 HarryTwenty More: http://www.megalithi...

Ffon y Cawr (the giant’s stick) near Rowen, Dyffryn Conwy. Legend has it that the stone was thrown by a giant from the hill fort at Pen y Gaer (hill on left) to wake his dog who was sleeping in the burial chamber Maen y Bardd nearby. @megalithic.bsky.social

Opferstein Muckwar: A legendary erratic boulder with furrows and depressions - possibly some are human made. "Opferstein" means sacrificial stone. The stone is situated in the forest 1km south of Muckwar, Brandenburg on a hiking trail. 📷 mk16jheh More: http://www.megalithi...

Mention us ( @megalithic.bsky.social ) in your ancient site photo posts for a retweet/post if we like them - and we mostly do! #StandingStoneSunday (and non standing stone things too - anything older than about 1000AD/CE, or 'pre-Contact' in the Americas)

About a year ago I went to pick up a secondhand coffee table from Duloe in Cornwall and spotted a sign by the road saying "stone circle". It turned out to be this wonderful little circle with beautiful stones fashioned from white quartz. -- #standingStoneSunday @megalithic.bsky.social

An essential new addition to the #StandingStoneSunday library here.

This stone is 9.4 metres high (yes 9.4 metres!) + it’s not even the tallest standing stone in Brittany. The Menhir de Champ Dolent is sinking into the ground, they say, and when it’s completely gone, the world will end (I think it might end before then). #standingstonesunday @megalithic.bsky.social

We can only speculate what the 33 cup marks on Easter Pitcorthie in #Fife might mean ….? #StandingStoneSunday More info on this large ‘grave stone’ on @megalithic.bsky.social here www.megalithic.co.uk/article.php?...

Menhir de la Chapelle Saint-Gildas: At the rear of a chapel in Côtes-D'Armor, Bretagne is this menhir with veins of quartz, 1.95 metres tall. It stands solitary in a field with a strange lump on one side.

Carreg Wen (Hafren): HarryTwenty has shared his photos of the major lunar standstill moonrise over Carreg Wen, June 11 2025: "The likely link between quartz and the moon in prehistoric times has been pointed out so the lunar standstill here is pretty special".

St Gildas Well (Laniscat): This is one of many holy wells dedicated to St Gildas - the healing of rabies seems to be one of their attributes. Every year, on 30th January after Mass, dogs are taken to this fountain to receive blessings and food. 📷 ogham More: http://www.megalithi...

Very chuffed to see Stone Lands in the @telegraphnews.bsky.social today! A lovely review. And @megalithic.bsky.social was mentioned too (‘endless fun’ - I quite agree…)

Out Soon: Stone Lands by Fiona Robertson, Launch Events inc. 24th June, Avebury: Out on the 16th June - the amazing new book Stone Lands by Fiona Robertson who was executive Editor on The Old Stones.

Finally put the @megalithic.bsky.social book to good use and checked out the High Bridestones on the North Yorkshire Moors. We were sadly ill-equipped to walk to Lilla Howe, so that'll have to wait for another day...

At the hamlet of Cosquer Jehan, 4.5km northwest of the village of Kérien, can be found this bulky, 5.5 metre tall coarse granite menhir, in a hedgerow just to the north of the D69 road. 📷 peulven More:

A few more likely matches for the sites in David’s photo from our forum (thanks Sem and Preseli360) www.megalithic.co.uk/article.php?...
