NYC is an extremely safe city. ICE and related federal agencies are actively and purposefully making it less safe. As they stir up violence in the coming days, remember which side it's coming from.

and while i doubt this little thread will make a big difference, i hope that if you attended your first march this weekend, you feel energized and excited to do more. i hope you're already looking for resources and organizations to support. i hope you're fired up! we need you and your energy 🖤

i understand the criticisms, truly. but i hope in the wake of these marches, more people feel empowered to get involved in their communities. i hope folks made connections and gained resources and found a renewed strength to fight. i hope this was a good first step for a lot of people.

yes, the marches alone will not turn the tide — of course they won't! but for the people who needed an emotional boost, who needed to connect with other folks in their area, who needed to know that they are not alone, those marches really mattered. they had an impact. and i think that's awesome.

for the folks who attended, and for the folks who wanted to attend but couldn't, those marches were reminders that they are not alone. it was a way to give trump and republicans and fascists the finger. it was a way to connect and gain momentum, or soothe a discouraged spirit. that's a good thing.

i also know folks who are heavily involved in community organizations and consistent action items who skipped the marches. i skipped the march! i do a lot already and didn't feel urgency around attending, and knew that my energy could do more good elsewhere. the marches weren't for us.

i know folks who marched who have been struggling to find local orgs to get involved with. i know folks who marched who have been feeling discouraged and powerless. i know folks who marched who feel isolated and lonely in their politics. the marches were for them. those folks needed to attend.

if your response to those marches is that they weren't powerful enough or weren't focused or were performative or won't lead to anything, i get it, and i hear you. you're probably involved in local direct actions, and that's awesome. the marches weren't for you. they were people who needed them.

i'm so glad i was able to attend this! what an incredible day

i love these tarot spreads but the point really is that i want you to be asking "what's next?" of yourself consistently. no kings day was amazing — and today is a new day. how are you keeping that momentum going? how are you showing up for your community? what actions will you take next?

oh i had to give up on threads, people are completely out of pocket over there

that's literally what i'm having to do right now, it's so ridiculous

the modern version of bloody mary: if you say "fascism" into an instagram reel three times, mark zuckerberg will personally delete your meta account (for legal purposes this is a joke but also like, is it)

a lot of influencers are (rightfully) getting heat for refusing to talk about politics in literally any way — but it's also critical to call out how platforms are actively censoring, shadowbanning, and outright erasing content about marches, protests, police brutality, genocide, fascism, and more
