What is developmental language disorder (DLD) called in your language? This year's theme for DLD day is "You can't see DLD". How can we tell people or show people what it is in your language and in your community? #devlangdis #DLDday

Delighted to be teaming up with @speechandlanguk.bsky.social today to set out why the mental health needs of children with speech and language challenges needs more attention and priority in both service provision and research

Thousands of children with speech & language challenges are punished unfairly at school. They need support, not sanctions. Sign our petition & demand better teacher training & fairer policies✍ speechandlanguage.org.uk/the-issue/si... #SupportNotSanctions

❗DID YOU KNOW?❗ DLD is more common than Autism — yet barely talked about. Let’s change that. #DevLangDis #DLD #ParentPerspective #DLDawareness

Couldn't have put it better myself ! Climate change is real , and fossil fuels are killing our planet . Just 5 days left to force a Parliamentary debate on banning fossil fuel ads – sign my petition today govpetition.uk/700024

A pleasure to talk with Dr Shaun Ziegenfusz of the DLD project about working with adults with DLD (developmental language disorder) last week for the DLD Project podcast last week. #developmentallanguagedisorder #DLD #DevLangDis #RADLD #inclusion #neurodiversity #RADLD #NAPLIC #AFASIC #DLDproject

Great meeting with supervisors on the @intandem.bsky.social supervisor register today - a dynamic & far-reaching conversation ranging from the clash of #supervision cultures in health & education, the potential role of AI in supervision & ideas for a new supervision podcast series @hcpc.bsky.social

RADLD is an international volunteer group with a mission to raise awareness of developmental language disorder (DLD). DLD is difficulty speaking, understanding and using language, and it affects both children and adults across the globe. Join us for DLD awareness day on Oct 17! #devlangdis

Easter opening hours 🐣 Our offices will be closed on the 18th April (Good Friday) and 21st April (Easter Monday). We hope you have some time off and a chance to relax and rest. And, enjoy the odd piece of chocolate too 😉 #easter #holidays

Thank you Tiya for your work raising awareness of #devlangdis and the impact for families www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/disabl... Important article calling for ring-fenced funding for the services disabled children and their families need.

Just found out that 'Concept Cat: Teaching concepts in the Early Years' is now at the printers. Ready to order from May 9th for delivery after May 30th. www.routledge.com/Concept-Cat-...

A brilliant research summary from ENGAGE with DLD. The message is clear, Developmental Language Disorder is not always just about language. With the right support, people with DLD can learn and thrive too. #devlangdis

We are running a 'Word Aware', whole school vocabulary course for student teachers and student Speech and Language Therapists. Just £10 per place. All funds raised go to @radld.bsky.social July 17th, online. thinkingtalking.co.uk/finding-a-wo...

Research matters. So do people with DLD. E-DLD was born from a simple but powerful idea: to bridge the gap between researchers and families. Because when awareness grows, understanding deepens — and that’s how we move the forward. Learn more: www.engage-dld.com #DevLangDis

Did you know? 🤔 Children with DLD can identify emotions in drawings as well as their peers with no DLD by age 5.5 — but real-life expressions can be harder to read. 📖 Summary: www.engage-dld.com/post/emotion... 📄 Original article: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... #DevLangDis #DLD #EngageDLD

Children with DLD can be good at socialising! They might just need a bit of extra support with relationships. Read the study summary here:https://www.engage-dld.com/post/how-do-children-with-language-disorder-perceive-peer-interactions Article: journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/... #DevLangDis

Read our letter to Meta, sent last week, condemning their unlicensed use of authors' work to train AI. #DoTheWriteThing #MetaBookThieves - societyofauthors.org/2025/04/04/t...

To all our teacher, teaching assistant friends... have a relaxing #SpringBreak

Like clockwork , as soon as you criticise the fossil fuel companies and executives – out come the lobbyists and shady thinktanks based at and near the infamous SW1 55 Tufton Street .

" Our voices do not get heard, but we do have a lot to say." In this hard hitting video, Siouxsie, a young woman with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) expresses herself via dance and art to share her experience of this often invisible need. www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTw4... #devlangdis

What a wonderful day of collective action! Authors deserve to be compensated for the use of their works, to earn a living from their ideas. If you’ve been you’ve been affected by the Meta LibGen data set, our piece includes useful resources - societyofauthors.org/2025/03/21/t...

People with Developmental Language Disorder are making their voices heard, and in surprising and creative ways. Check out this from Siouxsie, a young woman with DLD. #DevLangDis

Meta have engaged in wholesale copyright infringement of authors' work to feed their AI. If you think the UK government should get Meta to clean up their act and recompense authors, please sign this open letter from the @societyofauthors.bsky.social. #MakeItFair www.change.org/p/protect-au...

The diagnostic conversation with families needs to be handled with care when diagnosing DLD. @1hannahharvey.bsky.social's research revealed some 'varied' family experiences. Check out these slides. #DevLangDis #NAPLIC25

Clear message today from @amandafiner.bsky.social - chn & YP need more TIME to process and express their views & we need to really listen. The questions make me think of the phrase “every interaction is an intervention” - can’t underestimate the power of listening and talking #DevLangDis #NAPLIC25

#NAPLIC25 With Jenny Gibson @drjennyg.bsky.social presenting 2 projects. 1st is DLD and neurodiversity. Need to hear more from people with DLD. Investigations into strength. Self advocacy & community and a greater focus on inclusion #DevLangDis

Abraz Hussein, an adult with DLD tells his story. He got through primary without much support, but at start of secondary was permanently excluded. Then went to PRU before getting diagnosed and going to a special school for speech and language. Support makes all the difference! #NAPLIC25 #DevLangDis

It took permanent exclusion and PRU placement for Abraz to get a a diagnosis of #DevLangDis before needs could be met in education. Subsequently he achieved top results at college, has a degree in social work and is the most inspirational guy!! 🙏🌟 Recognising #SLCN can be life changing #NAPLIC25

Unless their ability to develop speech, language and communication skills is prioritised, children from areas of disadvantage or with special needs are being set up to fail - our letter in today's Daily Mail:

💬 'Over the many years I’ve worked in mental health, I can’t remember a single discussion about the one factor schools can affect: language'

What a difference it makes to have a supervisor where you can speak freely, including about doubts & worries, & know you're supported. Working with people in systems is hard, it just is. Imagine if we all had access to a safe relationship, separate from line management, to help make sense of it all.
