It's all over YouTube too - particularly the 'shorts'. I get it in my feed constantly despite not watching anything related. I don't use Instagram, Facebook or Tik Tok, so don't know if it's there too...?

Or another example, search for 'Elon Musk trading app' - the first two results are sites warning that there is no such genuine app and it's a scam/ fraud. The 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th results are all sites promoting the scam, including an X profile and (scam) apps in the actual Google app store.
comment in response to post
There is already an issue with accuracy in standard search results - eg search 'is xyz a scam' and you often get a page of results saying it's not, when it clearly is. (These are usually sites specifically set up to capture the search term, often generated by affiliate marketers promoting said scam)

This is an ad currently on Google for an organisation for whom Farage has flown around the world twice to be a keynote speaker at their conferences. Encouraging wealthy people to become immigrants & leave the UK to 'save tax'. Why do people not recognise the hypocrisy of this snake oil salesman?

I heard a bunch of students singing Wonderwall a few weeks ago. Was both surprised and puzzled! So if there is a Britpop revival with teenagers, I guess that makes a bit more sense now..

valuable and useful to the advertiser. (In any case buying that data from Facebook would be of no use, as using it to spam people with marketing for your cat related product/ service would be illegal).

While an advertiser cannot buy a list of cat owners in Sheffield from Facebook they can target cat owners in Sheffield using Facebook data and therefore create their own database of cat owners in Sheffield who are interested in their cat related product/ service, which is ultimately even more...

I am educated (University degree via access course, mature student route) but left school at 16 & don't have Maths GCSE or equivalent. Also think I am reasonably well informed. But that minimum requirement would disenfranchise me. In any case, universal franchise, is a core principle of democracy.

I got a mix of videos, but they included a GB news rant about asylum seekers, some guy praising Tommy Robinson, Tate and a few others of a similar nature. None of which had anything to do with the video I was watching.

YouTube full stop. Download a web browser app you have never used before (like Waterfox for example), cut and paste a fairly generic YouTube video URL, like a Sky news story and see what other videos the algorithm recommends without knowing anything about you or your viewing history.

It seems that I agree with "Green curious Labour party voters" on lots of things (my views mostly being closest to the disagree green dots on this graphic). But stupid shit like this means realistically I could never vote for them.
