Authoritarians - particularly the men, because of how they construct their ideas of masculinity - really don’t *allow themselves* much interiority. So it’s no surprise they project it out on others.

Words have meanings regardless of your view on them. Also, Hitler’s attempts to eliminate all opposition to him in the form of banning parties other than the Nazi Party did not eliminate all opposition; it just made it vastly more difficult to organize because it banned legally recognized parties.

Politics doesn’t really select for people who take brave ideological stands. It selects for people who can win elections.

Organized religions come in a very broad spectrum of authoritarianism even among denominations of the same religion; I suspect you’re thinking of very specific religions here.
