Boimler's inevitable panic attack would certainly hit the heart-wrenching factor... I think Rutherford and T'Lyn would both be pretty accepting of it after a second, and we all know that Mariner's dialogue (and probably her hand gestures, for that matter) would need to be censored.

Also a good way to go :) I volunteer with kids that age, we have a few uniform options, and it's their call.

Not clergy, just a former alter boy, and this feels like the way to go. Purpose of the altar servers is to blend in, right? Priest should be the focus of attention? One server in different colours will pull focus.

It definitely did not :) not sure if I overkneaded it or what, but it definitely deserves another attempt!

Raspberry Scout Camp.
Look, my ass is 40 and I've had an intermittently pinched nerve for almost half my life. I can't sleep on 1-1/2" of foam over the Canadian Shield and not need some Robax Platinum when I wake up, that's just how it works.

Hark to the tale of Nelson
And the boy he loved so dear!
They remained the best of friends
For years and years and years.

I'd forgotten about that! But then I normally don't use Windows anymore, either.
Thanks for the nice trip down memory lane.
Okbye! :)

What about the dogs? Or the dogs with bees in their mouths, and when they bark they shoot bees at you?

Zak McKracken requiring four sides seemed immense. When Doom needed TEN DISKS, my mind was blown.
And now, stupid pictures I take with my phone take up 4 MB.

Heed! Turn off the Bay City Rollers!
No notes, though; this is indeed a wonderful song, so thanks for bringing my attention back to it!

Needs a "clear mandate?" Didn't he win a majority in the last election?! How is that not a clear mandate? Oh, perhaps because it wasn't a campaign promise... but he made none.

The end result: a crusty loaf with a dense, frankly spongy crumb. Possibly slightly underbaked at the bottom? Very light flavour. My partner identified pretty quickly that I'd left out the salt in the recipe, so definitely some better attention to detail is called for for the next attempt.

This may just be my new favourite metaphor for generative AI. I've been using the "plagiarism-bot" and "the word salad machine" but I really like this. May I steal it?

Let's see. Geology--Rocks for Jocks. Reacquainted me with orienteering, super useful for camping and teaching camping.
Philosophy of Language. Pointed me to what would have been a research focus, natural language processing. Oddly, that interest is why I *know* how BS ChatGPT is.

Muppets is tied for me with the Alistair Sim version, preferably in black and white... why would anyone colourise it?! I'm certainly curious now about the Patrick Stewart version, though.

Oh wow, I haven't thought about Maclean-Hunter since they sold their cable business to Cogeco and the local cable-access station in Sarnia (TWO syllables, thank you very much!) changed... that's a trip down memory lane! Thanks! :)

Like, kind of a dingus bad mayor, or "makes Rob Ford look like a sensible compassionate person" bad mayor? Because I lived in Toronto for the Rob Ford years... I suppose he also would've been that "fun, watch a Buffalo game with him at the bar" sort... when he wasn't too busy smoking crack on video.

That just sounds fun. And makes the councilman sound like a fun "man-of-the-people" sort. To quote Hamilton, it's literally "like you could have a beer with him!" I miss that about the Long Ago. I'd bring my kid to tutoring, then go over to the pub around the corner, have a pint, and chat (or read).

I recently saw an OHL game where my local team wound up winning, 9-2. The last five or so minutes of the game, any time they had possession, they very pointedly wouldn't attack the net. Why bother? The opponents can't win at this point, so why add insult to injury, or risk getting hurt? 2/2

I was right about to snark about hockey being superior for having a delay of game penalty, but then I learned that gridiron football notionally has it too... I guess the NCAA takes it more seriously than the NFL?
Though I don't entirely mind it when the puck-holders are hilariously winning. 1/2

As Carlin put it, "I am not impressed. Results like these do not belong on the resumé of a supreme being. This is the kind of shit you'd expect from an office temp with a bad attitude."
I also like the notion of God setting up billiard balls on a perfect table, giving it a whack, and stepping back.

Oh lawd. After reading this thread, I decided to pop into the old "What's Hot" algorithmic feed and, uh, yeah. Lots of people being horny on main. Including one a certain Veth Brenatto wouldn't be able to favourite fast enough.

Yeah, that's definitely an internal status page, rather than anything meant for us external nerds, or even the general public... though I have a hard time being too mad about it, to be honest. Bluesky's only 20 people, and even my 150-200 person company doesn't have a public status page!

Okay, how about this? The logo is a butterfly, right? Why not a "flutter" or a "flit," if you really need something monosyllabic?
