That is the consensus of a lot of people. How old were you at that time?

Sounds like they're going sheerly on name recognition. Which might bode well for Mamdani in the big picture. Note that they aren't voting for Adrienne Adams, whose district is, of course, in... SE Queens.

You made a claim and then asserted there are "credible scientific sources" that support it. Now you can't supply them. Samuel Johnson once said, "Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel." But maybe it's really when people say "do your own research."

Again, it’s not on *me* to back up *your* claims. Which you have repeatedly failed to do. If you can’t make your case, there’s no reason to believe it.

No, it’s not on *me* to back up *your* claims. Which you still haven’t done.

There are so many reasons one could concoct for not being able to fully appreciate _Pet Sounds_: never having visited Southern California, not knowing music theory, being unfamiliar with surf music, etc. As with any music, maybe it's best to just let it speak to you.

Ah, OK, so you don’t have any credible sources to support your claim and you’re trying to blame me for that. Got it.

Sounds good. What credible scientific sources do you cite to support your case?

OK, I'll bite: why not?

Gen Xers were largely responsible for the rediscovery of _Pet Sounds_ in the '90s: bands like Death Cab, Weezer and Radiohead praised it and there was the whole genre of chamber pop. _Pet Sounds_ true significance is that it's sublime music, which is something anybody of any age could appreciate.

It also looks kind of like a Richard Serra sculpture.

Funnily enough, that was my nickname in college.

And there we have it, our political climate in a nutshell: if Thing A is worse than Thing B, then Thing B is not bad at all.

That'll be a good tax deduction for you.

Hell Gate is by very far the best source — in any medium — for news about New York City politics and culture, with coverage that's smart, savvy, incisive and timely. And, for a little much-needed comic relief, sometimes it's even funny.

Thanks! That's a very powerful clip of Joy Division's tour manager. I'm sure that just about anyone who's been in a similar position can relate. I trust you've read the great @jonsavage.bsky.social excellent Joy Division oral history _This Searing Light, the Sun and Everything Else_.

Thank you for those kind words. I think you'll get a whole lot out of _The Amplified Come as You Are_, which tries to make sense of troubling times.

I say we revoke that trust.

Why does it destroy the market hypothesis?

Hang in there; you will prevail. (But you knew that already.)
