It is best to love first what you are fitted to love, I suppose: you must start somewhere and have some roots, and the soil of the Shire is deep.

The LA protests will trigger a drumbeat of "law and order" messaging from the White House and their media allies as a prelude to invoking the Insurrection Act. This is entirely predictable, and any Dem or media outlet that facilitates this narrative will be aiding Trump's authoritarian project.

“I tried to raid an elementary school but the principal stopped me” ass job.

“Hey kid, can you grab me my blue Rainier’s cap. Not that one, the nice one”

Charles loves to wake me up at 0615 on a Saturday and give me plot summary from whatever book he’s reading. And it is very sweet but also…

Japan and Germany. Large swaths of Western Europe. The Republic of Korea. The Republic of China. Egypt. The Baltic states and Poland.

If Gen Z really wants to dunk on millennials, they should learn about Foursquare and go around saying stuff like, "I hear you're the mayor of this Panera Bread."

I think that a century-billionaire who bought a Prime Ministerial position and whose little rats are pulling out wires in the walls of government, and a Mad King writing “Ultima Ratio Regum” on the Justice Department department before going after him, counts as stuff that matters

I watched “Conclave” over the last two evenings. And that movie goes from “well, that’s silly” to “that’s ridiculous” to “no goddamned *way*” over the course of the film. So when the final twist comes, you’re just numb and say yeah, sure, fine.

Hell yeah

I had my farewell from my unit today. I said thank you, and I told my comrades that if this was where my career was to end then I'm glad it was with them. I closed it by saying "I won't ask for your forgiveness, because I've done nothing wrong. I won't ask for your pity, because I'm not broken."

Lots of load bearing posts in action today

JD Vance: Peter, what are you doing here? Peter Thiel: Longing, Rusted, Seventeen, Daybreak, Furnace, Nine, Benign, Homecoming, One, Freight Car

It was the world’s easiest prediction

I am not a magic man in any sense, but I do look around everywhere when I am out in the world, and I do look at peoples faces, which is something I am told that most people do not do.

I like Governor Walz. He was created in a lab specifically to appeal to me. I think that Governor Walz is a bad national level politician and would be an ineffectual president.

I was getting gas today when a youngish woman, mid-late 20s, stepped out of her car and said “IS ANYBODY HERE *NOT* AFRAID OF SPIDERS” I looked on for a second and another older lady looked directly at me and, under the force of her moral weight, allowed as I was not afraid of spiders.

“What are our men made of?” He will never tell.
