A young Johnny Drama and Skippy from Family Ties playing kid commandos in North Korea sounds like the kind of Red Dawn-lite premise that would've worked in the 80s. And while this 'no dad left behind' adventure has heart at its core, the limits of the production are felt most in the muted action.

Surprise: This was a very fun rewatch. Come for the bottle spinning theatrics, stay for the beachfront melodrama. Despite its paper thin Heywood Gould script, Roger Donaldson directs the neon buzz of the tropical nightlife with style. The music alone makes this a pop culture karaoke time capsule.
