He’s welcome to try for a constitutional amendment then.

What an incredibly stupid article.

That or maybe I’ll come back to it for another try when I get to catch up on my reading presumably after I retire

I bounced off the first one pretty hard at the same time in my life I made it through the Foundation novels so it may not be the story for me. But the acting, music, etc. sure didn’t help. It had a few striking visuals and that’s all I can say that’s nice about the part I watched.

I couldn’t do it. I was at someone else’s house and halfway through I just gave up and put on headphones and watched something else on my iPad.

On the flip side Dune also sucked so I wouldn’t get too excited…

Like, progressive started in its modern usage literally as a rebrand of liberal because the republicans had attacked liberal so successfully.

Liberal was always a dumb insult though. “Very liberal” is what people called what we now call progressives before that term broke through.

"The Democrats" isn't a static category. Zohran Mamdani and Brad Lander woke up this morning as the leaders of the Democratic Party in New York City, and they got there by trouncing Andrew Cuomo, Michael Bloomberg, and Bill Clinton.

I would put Governor above congress, so Hoffman it is.

That wasn't my intent - I'd be shocked if there wasn't at least one senator or governor out of the lot - but it'd be a great joke if it were true.

“What is the highest office held by a former New York City mayor, and who was it?” is a spectacular political trivia question.

I feel like it’s underrated that while the Dem federal gerontocracy and New York Dems both suck, large parts of the DSA also suck. So replacing one with the other would just be changing our problem. (To be clear, don’t rank Cuomo though.)

Happily for most MAGA people who said they wanted those things it was more in the form of an excuse than a sincere expression of desire.

Respectfully, the govt of Israel isn’t our friend and hasn’t been for a while. The Netanyahu regime isn’t as bad domestically as the Iranian yet because some institutions are holding but overall it’s a “my old friend is now a fascist with a drug problem but I still care about his kids” situation.

I presume the rockets have predictable trajectories so it winds up being something like a small scale MLRS.

To be fair, the movie also has several fight sequences that are better than anything in Marvel except the Captain America elevator scene.

It does seem reasonable to imagine that an expressed openness to doing kidnapping and a lack of resume elements to suggest one might not actually be okay with doing kidnapping would likely be helpful in getting hired right now, given their institutional needs?
comment in response to
post
That would be a sort of claim that would require specific evidence that afaik nobody has.
comment in response to

Not specific evidence, but given that many ICE agents lack physical conditioning, have random kit, and display rampant unprofessionalism, “ICE has hired anyone who is willing to kidnap for them and that includes a bunch of types akin to those who took part in J6” seems… not entirely implausible?

I saw someone comment that this is an active manifestation of the “reality has a well known liberal bias” cliche - very difficult to teach an LLM to say things flattering to people like musk but be on point with factual matters otherwise.

Other than try to go to Dodger stadium, apparently. Like, I take your point, but I do think there’s a real potential for an eventual wedge between cops who drive police cars and wear uniforms and out of town dipshits who roll into town with none of those things and make trouble.

Giving traditional law enforcement an out might be useful if we ultimately hope to have these people arrested.

I don’t think it’s correct to say it’s not useful *at all* because I have certainly gotten some use from it - one might argue successfully that it’s uses are not worth the societal cost, like asbestos, another thing that has valid applications that we have largely chosen to forgo for good reason.

I feel like that’s at least partly on the electorate for not having the object permanence to punish republicans for trying to do bad things.

Republicans have so convinced themselves that tax cuts pay for themselves that they no longer even bother to include pro-growth provisions.
They throw together a pile of populist clutter and special interest giveaways and then assume by magic that the economy will soar.
