“Car ownership and transit ridership serve as a shorthand for someone's entire living situation — and, apparently, their politics.” www.jalopnik.com/1895759/nyc-...

Zohran was my #2 so now I want Zohran to make @bradlander.bsky.social his #1 Deputy Mayor. 🤞🏻 Also, this isn’t a stunning win; Cuomo ran a garbage, absentee campaign. When will the democratic establishment wake up??? www.thecity.nyc/2025/06/24/m...

We’re about to get a lot of months of discussion about free buses.

for those of you who weren’t in New York it’s really hard to understate just how awful Cuomo’s campaign was. He didn’t go to candidate forums. He was nowhere to be seen in the city. He said he had no regrets and refused to apologize for his countless scandals. He had it coming. Good riddance bozo

Everything about this guy is uninspiring. Wild that a sexual harasser and serial liar has made it this far. 😣

*COUGHS LOUDLY*

I’ve never experienced three digit temps in NYC before. 🥵

Disaggregating the five boroughs for the purpose of analysis is the right call (Brooklyn #1 large city for cycling 👀) but a 23 point spread between BK and Manhattan, plus car-free Governor’s Island turning up as high-stress shows these @peopleforbikes.bsky.social rankings deserve a lot of scrutiny.

Today was the last day of early voting in the NYC democratic primary. Ranked choice voting gives us options and these are my 💯, all proven leaders for the offices they hold or seek. ✅ @bradlander.bsky.social ✅ @marklevinenyc.bsky.social ✅ @chiosse.bsky.social ✅ @bkbpreynoso.bsky.social

This is what we mean when we say streets are vital public spaces.

Not all 500,000-home commitments are created equal; thank you @bradlander.bsky.social for showing your work. We can't just stop the bleeding of rising rents: we have to cure the underlying disease of our decades-in-the-making housing shortage. Brad gets that—hopefully voters will too.

RPA STUDY: Congestion pricing "has reduced traffic not only in Manhattan’s congestion relief zone (CRZ) but on roadways across the region. These time savings seem to be stable — remaining consistent and undiminished" -- rpa.org/news/lab/con...

In neighboring East Orange, our same team removed a dedicated right turn lane to calm traffic and create better pedestrian crossings and sight lines under the rail viaduct at the Brick Church NJ Transit Station. Local artist Steve Green brought forth a beautiful and varied geometric design. 🤩

The intersection S. Essex and Tony Galento Plaza is a major gateway to downtown Orange, NJ and their NJ Transit station. Until last week it lacked crosswalks and suffered from visibility issues given the rail viaduct. #TacticalUrbanism #AsphaltArt

There was once a highway here where no such view or social experience was possible for people.

Just arrived in Providence. 👀 @thewaroncars.bsky.social

👀 Lyft’s next gen pedal and electric assist bikes just dropped. Cant wait to see these in NYC. lyfturbansolutions.com/blog/2025/06...

STUDY found that “the growing number of SUVs reduced the vehicle capacity of freeway lanes in Minnesota’s Twin Cities by 9.5% between 1995-2019. Their findings suggest yet another way in which ‘car bloat’ exacerbates problems that affect everyone, regardless of how they travel.” Plus more deaths…

Did you know that the mortality impact of being socially disconnected is similar to that caused by smoking up to 15 cigarettes a day? I didn’t until I wrote about the design of our communities and its impact on loneliness for Streetsblog NYC’s Car Harms series. nyc.streetsblog.org/2025/06/09/c...

Paris, leading from the front.

I’ve lived here for 16 years but I’m always impressed by the metabolism of New York, where there is seemingly an endless demand for more housing. The late 2021 Gowanus rezoning is expected to deliver 9,300 new housing units (3,000 affordable-ish?) and a canal-side promenade.

Forget all of the noise they’re making, this graphic tells you all you need to know about this administration and its priorities.

Most of the plantings still need to go in but the 14th Street Promenade is now open and being used as we intended!

After decades of letting people leave piles of messing drippy garbage bags on the sidewalks, the Department of Sanitation says its plan to change the way NYC deals with garbage has started in earnest. buff.ly/uGPUhfk

Unpopular opinion: NYC needs fewer parks not more if it won’t also increase overall maintenance dollars. This mayor broke a campaign promise to increase parks funding to 1% of the city budget, meaning these new sites will take scant resources away from existing parks. gothamist.com/news/nyc-wan...

Good morning from the Brooklyn Greenway, where the trees are maturing nicely, creating a green wall that further buffers people from parked and moving vehicles.

Refreshing to see two NYC pols who have each served as my councilors get behind housing in our community. Our family looks forward to new neighbors, new businesses, a safer Atlantic Avenue and refreshed public spaces - like Hancock Park! 👏 👏 👏 🙏 @chiosse.bsky.social @cmcrystalhudson.bsky.social

Haters say bike lanes slow emergency vehicle response. In reality, they speed it up. Including me, numerous people cycling or scootering got out of the way so NYPD could use the lane to bypass a long line of drivers who didn’t budge. 🙄

Are you coming to the Congress for the New Urbanism? You really should. I’ve learned so much at CNU. If money’s an obstacle, consider volunteering: www.cnu.org/cnu33/volunt...

Research out of UC-Berkeley’s Terner Center: How is the US doing in building lower VMT, walkable neighborhoods? Better than recent decades but results vary dramatically across states and metro areas. And we clearly aren’t building _enough_ housing. ternercenter.berkeley.edu/blog/buildin...

“Of the 121 pedestrians killed in traffic last year, 120 were struck by a car while one person died after being hit by an electric bike, according to city transportation department data...” Tisch’s criminalization of ⚡️ 🚲 is absurd and clearly not about safety. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/24/n...

(De)congestion pricing has exceeded expectations but imagine if the peak charge was $15, as initially planned, and not $9. It’s likely that this Midtown intersection would be more functional for everyone.
