If it really fostered bipartisanship, everyone who played in the congressional baseball game would release a joint statement condemning what happened today to the senator from California.

The oppression of the entire Latino community of Los Angeles right now is difficult to convey. Normally vibrant local retail areas of East LA and SELA look like ghost towns this week. People are afraid to leave their homes. Parents afraid to go to work. It's US citizens too. Anyone with brown skin

This is a lie. We all saw the video. The Senator clearly identified himself, and he did not "lunge" toward anyone.   If these miserable propagandists will lie to you about roughing up a U.S. Senator in a room full of reporters, what won't they lie to you about?

I’m taking California and the points.

A few thoughts on the sudden flurry of “BlueSky sucks” stories coming out of mainstream media and especially politically-oriented writers. In short: they’re idiots. Long form: lik the politicians they cover, political reporters are literal idiots when it comes to covering tech./1

New figures from CBO about how Americans at different income levels are affected by the GOP's Big Beautiful Bill. Topline finding: Richest decile gets about 2% richer. Poorest decile gets about 4% poorer. www.cbo.gov/publication/...

I think the negative media obsession around Bluesky is a direct evolution of the media obsession with Twitter—which, you could argue, was an actual consequential echo chamber for years that disconnected some media people from what was happening offline and in more popular online spaces.

The black hole at the center of the galaxy isn’t as dense as this guy.

Everyone I knew who covered disinformation got laid off, their bosses got bullied into firing them, or they changed their beats from actual Nazi harassment campaigns. It cannot be stressed the damage the paid-for Substack “free speech” guys did in the service of fascism and against real free speech.

The Republican magic math used to justify their megabill is so insane that they've blackpilled themselves into thinking that it will reduce the deficit by $8.5 trillion, a calculation that's only off by about $13 trillion. @ryanlcooper.com brings receipts: prospect.org/politics/202...

Trump ain’t a strong and decisive leader. He’s just a total a**hole boss nobody wants to work for.

By the way, if Bluesky was as unpopular, failing, and one-sided as the editorials say it is then they wouldn’t even write editorials about it, let alone a new one every few days/weeks

I continue to be furious with Congress refusal to regulate technology, doesn’t everyone see where this is going?

RIP Brian Wilson. A genius.

1) What's likely based on my experience: A huge turnout Saturday of folks carrying signs and marching peacefully, and then folks wake up Sunday wildly disappointed by the media's under-coverage of the event

Every flashbang could instead be a meal for a poor kid. Every hotel room for a National Guardsman deployed to fire at our neighbors could house a homeless vet. Every "less-than-lethal" bullet pulled from a journalist's eye could be already needed healthcare for anyone else. All of this is a choice.

The idea that the progressive left used the internet to bully institutions into accepting unpopular, far-left positions is the exact opposite of what has actually happened. The alt-right used the internet for ideological capture and they are now in the White House bragging about it daily

Seems like we could all use a bit of good news this week, so here's a little something: chescotimes.com?p=41905

Thing I need all Dems at every level to absorb yesterday: if someone pulls a knife on you, you are in a knife fight, whether or not you want to be

Perhaps the country shouldn't be run by people living in an absolute fever dream that has no relationship with reality

Substance aside, i have long been confused why Jake Tapper gets to be "an objective journalist but with opinions" while others don't. He is the "lead anchor" not an opinion show host. This has been true for years

Sly Stone made a lot of timeless, enjoyable, challenging music. But “Hot Fun in the Summertime” is arguably the greatest 45 RPM record ever issued.

the reason the ruling class has such disdain for public art is because they think the space could be better used for ads

The disparity btwn what’s actually happening in Los Angeles and the way it’s being mischaracterized is one of the biggest stress tests of modern media in recent memory. Botted socials, AI, old clips, declining literacy—it’s like seeing a broken emergency response system hit by a storm.

The Democratic Party is actually pretty effective under strict institutional norms and rules. They whip votes and submit to leaders despite a big tent and diverse base When the norms and rules don’t apply (like now), the Democratic Party is a deer in the headlights

If troops show up in our cities, we stop. No work. No deliveries. No shopping. No compliance. A general strike isn’t radical—it’s survival. This isn’t what freedom looks like. You want martial law? Then you’ll get a country on pause. We refuse to be ruled by force. #GeneralStrike

You want martial law? Here’s your recession.

If Trump actually had a mandate to do what he's doing we wouldn't have nationwide protests and he wouldn't need the military to silence those protesters

They can’t arrest all of us. They think they can. Because they don’t believe in numbers. Because math is for nerds.

Watching the right now oppose the part of the second amendment that guarantees a well regulated militia under state control is… something.

You know when else that “generational disruption” was happening, Dave? In freaking 2021 and ‘22 when you were doing the very ill-advised merger you’re now undoing. (From here: www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/bus...)

I'm grateful that if I post that Stephen Miller is a hateful dickbag on social media, no one can fire me from MSW Media because I own it. I might not be your cup of tea, but thanks to all who support independent media 💙🙏

What would happen if, as a form of protest, America got sick. Too sick to show up for work. Too sick to shop and buy things from companies that rely on their commerce. What would happen if instead of protesting on the streets, Americans just got sick and shut everything down?

I’m not sure why Gavin Newsome doesn’t activate the rest of his army guard to prevent the president from it or force him to overrule it…. Then fight on the second amendment guaranteeing a state a right to a militia. How can a state have a militia if the president can simply federalize it

The MAGA "GOP" should be banned from US politics forever as a domestic terrorist organization.

While tempting, violence will isn’t the answer. Peaceful protests, economic pushback and if needed, general strikes are going to be more effective. They will ultimately resort to violence — they lack the ability or intelligence to outflank smart, organized resistance. Violence will B their downfall.

He is using the Feds to antagonize and terrorize the protestors into using violence to defend themselves and our right to protest. He wants to escalate to a point he can access emergency powers.

"In several examples printed out and shared in Politico’s Rosslyn, Virginia, newsroom last week, staff pointed to instances where the tool appeared to garble the publication’s reporting, or generate reports filled with completely made-up information."

Important thing to beat people over the head with: Trump has turned American cities into warzones and for fucking what? Prices are way up, jobs will be way down, the dollar is worth less, and now the highway is blocked off by cops. Maybe the Great Mythical Immigrant wasn’t the problem after all.

Everything that’s happened over the past six months has been a response to an imaginary crisis. There is no immigrant invasion. No trade crisis. No scientific or governance crisis. Just people completely high off their own supply trying to fundamentally reorder society. None of this had to happen.

⚠️ Warning: The Trump administration is circulating footage from 2020 to make the situation in L.A. appear more chaotic than it is. This is an intentional effort to manufacture a larger crisis. Stay alert. Pay attention. The propaganda machine is in overdrive.

Independent journalism is when you can write what Terry Moran wrote without getting in trouble. Corporate journalism is when you can’t. It’s why many left the latter for the former. I understand the rationale behind corp journalism rules, I’m just glad they don’t apply to me

We have the power to fight back: cut your spending. Only support pro-democracy companies. Those who bend the knee: nothing for them. Money speaks louder than violent protest.

So Trump is just Stephen Miller’s puppet. It’d be a shame if Trump turned on him bc he thought Miller was stealing the spotlight. Ahem.
