Motto: Je suis veillant à plaire Motto Translation: I am watchful to please. (There's a joke here about coming from line of pleasing submissives) Seriously tho, Sandersons came from Normans so I guess old French. The branch that was nobility died out centuries ago but the crest used more widely

Wish it was possible to subscribe to the Times "all but politics and opinion." Don't care if it's the same price and if the money goes into the same pot. I just want on principle to support the rest of it and not those two poisonous sections.

Yeah just a visceral reaction to that guy. Anyway:

I mean the biggest problem was Bill de Blasio. As bad as Cuomo was, letting him off the hook for his own failure is a bridge too far

Forgot about this classic: For years MTA blamed delays on "overcrowding"— then it turned out when delays for other reasons (like breakdowns from underinvestment) led to skipped trains, skipped trains weren't counted as delayed. But overcrowded trains that followed were. Massively misleading whoops!

Oh sorry, my specific feature info is out of date, please just take this as a example. My point was more in response to the general "is anything ever safe?" Still, the security means it's *more cumbersome* to implement and use these features but that is specifically because overall more secure.

Security is about tradeoffs. Seriously I worked in secure messaging, that's what you are doing. HOWEVER to be clear, in Signal/end-to-end you are trading off features like accessing messages from a newly-setup device for not having your messages read by service provider. It's good and worth it.

"Can we get rid of this Ayatollah t-shirt? Khomeini died years ago." "But, Marge, it works on any Ayatollah. Ayatollah Nakhbadeh, Ayatollah Zahedi..."

lol it's a security industry term, the threat is that is harmless folks can do something then bad actors can also. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Threat_... real security people are in fact happy when LOLSEC-like groups expose vulnerabilities in a very splashy way, it sends everyone checking their defenses

Honestly you could write up just the observation from the video that the plane had trouble gaining altitude and the outside temperature might have affected it. But understandable to wait.

"Better" maybe relatively. Everyone already hated him, that didn't help. We did get this real all time banger where NYC had a blackout and he was literally in Waterloo.

"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo. "So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."
