that is kind of strange. the english dub of dinner table detective was recorded in cape town, which is a bit odd as well.

netflix at least has a huge subscriber base. but how many people watch anything on prime video besides reacher??

that dub is an absolute mess, it's hard to believe that the same crew did the really good manga UK patlabor movie dubs.

I had that thought too, haha

I disliked the gimmick, and didn’t see the point when he dropped the gimmick but kept the name. I never really stuck around long enough to get through the meat of his reviews.

Man that sounds stressful. For me it’s less a matter of “ I have to talk about something unpleasant with a stranger” and more “ I can barely hear this person, they can’t understand me, and I’m hunched over like a weirdo” 😁

that might be a sensible move, depending on how many lines there are in the buiding and whether it has its own PBX. however, it is dependent on computer network and power continuity, which plain ol telephone service lines do NOT need.

i almost always skip the trailers because they show the endings

have sampled a couple of iterative tools like this and they are getting shockingly good. not ready for prime time, but edging closer and closer to "oh, we might not need separate music and effects tracks for this old-ass show we want to dub" territory.

like I said, it was pure hubris. i look back mere hours later and audibly say "what a fool i was!" upside is that I can afford the loss, and that I can wipe the old phone and sell it on at the MIT swapfest next week for $50-100 cash to a fellow gadget nerd who will then have a Little Project.

ehhhh. case is a minor expense, i'll see if I like the spigen. if not, I'll just order up one of these bad boys. mostly i'm just mad at myself for my hubris. why would I just assume that a phone would be sturdy??? clearly i'm getting lazy in my thinking.

IMO it's still worth seeing on a huge screen with a crowd, but I'd like them to do better. also frankly, these are easy for me when they're AMC A-list eligible, because I have a subscription. Yes, I'm paying $25/month, but it doesn't "feel" expensive when I'm seeing a movie or two or three a week

My one apprehension: Ohtsuka's 65, so in 10 or 15 years we're gonna have this problem again... 😅 (probably around the same time Kanichi Kurita will retire, too) (...i wonder if we'll still be getting new Lupin the 3rd on the regular in fifteen years...!!!)

YES! I actually gotta do a quick post about that

i love the feature set on these phones, but am leery of the overseas origins, custom OS, etc. I'd be concerned about getting good support. Do they work with US carriers on 5G?

I put my phone down in the con green room to attend to the snack table. Bill Shatner sidles over, snatches the handset, and swipes a finger across the still-unlocked screen to do a jokepost. the phone gives him an "ACCIDENTAL SHATNER TOUCH" lockscreen; he shakes his head sadly. SHATNER-PROOOOF
