Oldham, then in Lancashire, was one of the bus operators who used both letters & numbers for bus routes; these 1963 timetables also show the 'owl symbol', from the coat of arms, adopted by the General Manager who arrived from Liverpool who used a similar symbol with the mythical 'Liver bird'.

Showing my age now. Who recalls the 'tanner'? A pre-decimal British 6d coin, dating from 1948 and the reign of George VI. He defended the faith & would be, by the end of the year, no long Emperor of India. From an exhibition at the Hayward Gallery, London.

From a 1965 news report on the comprehensive redevelopment of the Birmingham inner city suburb of Ladywood - one of the city's smart & simple standard district name signs. I often wish I could have 'acquired' one of these! An Atkinson's boozer as well. @lccmunicipal.bsky.social @showmeasign.online

Front cover, by "Berger", to the October 1935 issue of "Shelf Appeal", the journal of packaging, display & advertising and that in this issue considered the cost and effectiveness of radio advertising. As here in the UK the BBC had a monopoly, this involved overseas stations. ↘️ flic.kr/p/2rc9tQp

A rather fine c.1898 catalogue of printer's "Modern Vignettes & Ornaments" from the Leipzig typefoundry of J.G. Schelter & Giesecke. Many of the designs have an 'arts & crafts' feel as well as hinting at the Jugendstil movement. #printing #graphicdesign #germany ↘️ flic.kr/p/2rbZxoU
