If you want to understand how the ABC ended up in this god awful cluster fiasco, harming the careers of @antoinettelattouf.bsky.social , Stan Grant, Emma Alberici, Yasmin Abdel Magid, Andrew Probyn, Nick Ross & the many that you don’t hear about, I explain it in my recent book:

MEAA members at the ABC have said staff and the public deserve a full independent inquiry into how, time and time again, there is inappropriate influence on our editorial content. @withmeaa.bsky.social

Seems more relevant now than ever. @antoinettelattouf.bsky.social

hey quick question: is anyone in the government's leadership going to say anything about the ABC? surely a high profile unfair dismissal linked to managing cowing to a lobby group, and involving board meddling, is worth saying something? maybe even an investigation? some consequences for the board?

Seems more relevant now than ever. @antoinettelattouf.bsky.social

Extract from Lattouf judgement "ABC managers...extraordinarily sensitive to the risk of criticism by The Australian." Shocking, as the Murdoch media now has near zero influence on the Aus public, see recent research from @australiainstitute.org.au 1/3 www.judgments.fedcourt.gov.au/judgments/Ju...

Judge: "I infer that Mr Oliver-Taylor sought to mitigate the anticipated deluge of complaints [...] In that sense, the decision was made to appease pro-Israel lobbyists who would inevitably escalate the complaints about the ABC." www.abc.net.au/news/2025-06...

"Holding or expressing a political opinion is not, Rangiah found, a valid reason for terminating someone’s employment, even at the national broadcaster." www.smh.com.au/culture/tv-a...

The ABC sacked our colleague because of her political opinion and to appease a lobby group, the court found. And they spent more than $1 million on ridiculous defences including the she was never sacked and there is no such thing as a Lebanese race. Time for the ABC to rethink how it treats staff.

So not only did our former chair seem to use her position to exert undue influence on the ABC due to lobbying campaign. But she also spent thousands of taxpayer dollars using luxury limousines to get to fancy lunches. And she says she’s above the rules applied to the rest of us.

OK, this is wild. In September 2023, geophysicists across the world started monitoring a very odd signal coming from the ground under them. It was picked up in the Arctic. And Antarctica. It was detected everywhere, every 90 seconds, as regular as a metronome, for *nine days*. What the HELL? 1/

This is SO INTERESTING! No idea there was an entire coral collector “scene” And of course while our beloved reef is struggling, we’re nevertheless allowing people to chip away at it and sell chunks of it on in the name of private enterprise. JFC

I never realised there was a significant industry harvesting corals from the Great Barrier Reef to build private aquariums around the world. Reports have suggested the practice is leaving colonies drained of colour. Now not only scientists - but also law enforcement - are raising the alarm.

Australia’s Great Barrier Reef is being literally chipped away at to build private aquariums. Now conservationists are raising the alarm.

It sounds like “yes” is the answer now!

Strong opinion piece by @jennaprice.bsky.social

Taking a moment to process the fact that the ABC chair's idea of "the sort of talent so important you just have to put up with their demands" is apparently stuck on Hey Hey Its Saturday circa 1986

After everything we have gone through - with all the inappropriate intervention of previous chairs and MDs - this is BEYOND disappointing. ABC journos deserve better: to be allowed do their job without the biases of chairs and MDs undermining our independence. @withmeaa.bsky.social

Apparently the government made the decision months ago and hasn’t wavered… but also it hasn’t made a final decision… 🤔

Several large coal mines have slashed their annual carbon emissions by more than half as a result of mandated changes to accounting methods that have prompted experts to question the reliability of key data underpinning one of Labor’s flagship climate policies.

This is shocking. Before anyone says it's the biggest failure ever seen in science communication, it's not (all) our fault! It's politically driven disinformation

Adolf Hitler's “Mein Kampf” is still on U.S. Naval Academy shelves. “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” and “Memorializing the Holocaust” are not. An order by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s office led to a purge of books that are critical of racism — but preserved volumes defending white power.
